The Mind-Blowing Impact of Jedi's Survivor Force on Star Wars: Unveiling Unforgettable Moments

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's exhilarating boss fights, the Spontaneous Rancor and Surprise Spawn of Oggdo, are unfortunately overshadowed by their repetitive use in the Force Tears mechanic, diminishing their impact

Highlights

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor offers expansive exploration in Koboh, with new abilities and tools expanding the massive locale.

Do not overlook the importance of optional NPC activities, such as populating Rambler's Reach, as they can create memorable moments. However, it is worth noting that while the rancor boss fight and the spawn of Oggdo boss fight are exhilarating encounters, their uniqueness is diminished when encountering them repeatedly in recycled Tear scenarios.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor offers a more intricate storyline compared to its predecessor, but it surpasses Fallen Order in terms of the vast exploration it provides. Koboh, in particular, is an astonishingly immense location that continues to expand as Cal gains new abilities and tools on his journey. While focusing solely on Survivor's main narrative would satisfy players, it would mean missing out on some of the game's most memorable moments, such as engaging in optional NPC activities that lead back to Rambler's Reach's cantina.

One example of these moments is Survivor's Force Tears, which pose a significant challenge in either combat or traversal. While some traversal Tears require abilities obtained later in the game, it is advisable to tackle combat Tears later on as well. However, there is one drawback to certain Tears that diminish the impact of their incredible moments in-game. This occurs when encountering two bosses, the rancor fight and the spawn of Oggdo fight, which should have been unique when found in Koboh.

Jedi: Survivor’s Spontaneous Rancor Boss Fight

Sadly, the early previews of gameplay ruined the surprise, but the boss fight against Survivor's rancor was an incredible experience while casually exploring Koboh. Players who knew to establish a meditation point near an open room might have expected a boss fight there, but the thrilling moment of discovering the giant monster creeping out from behind a pillar was exhilarating for those who were unaware. The fight itself proved to be extremely challenging, especially on medium-to-higher difficulties, as the rancor had the potential to swiftly kill Cal in just one or two hits. Therefore, it was not a battle for those faint of heart who wished to confront it early.

However, the encounter itself loses some of its uniqueness once another rancor appears later in the game, and rancors begin roaming freely throughout Koboh. Furthermore, the encounter becomes even more trivial when players are tasked with defeating two rancors in a single fight during Survivor's Fractured Malice Tear, which is found on the Rooftops of the Coruscant Undercity. If only one rancor had been present in the initial scenario, its inclusion could have remained distinct and memorable. Unfortunately, the impact diminishes significantly when players are forced to face the frustrating challenge of defeating two rancors simultaneously in the confined arena of the Tear.

Jedi: Survivor’s Surprise Spawn of Oggdo Boss Fight

The other issue, which could be considered even worse, is that the encounter with Survivor's spawn of Oggdo boss fight was not left as a unique experience. While navigating through Fort Kah'lin, which is infested with Bedlam Raiders including B1 and B2 battle droids, players eventually come across a blast door that opens beneath them. If a droid was able to open it, Cal will fall into a pit where a familiar enemy, Oggdo Bogdo from Fallen Order, awaits.

This fight should not be underestimated, as the spawned Oggdo replicates its moves but is much faster. Unfortunately, the enclosed arena does not provide any advantage for players. It is quite interesting to discover Oggdo's spawn in Koboh, as it adds an unexpected element of optional content that may go unnoticed by players who do not explore extensively. In addition, after defeating the spawn, players will encounter Survivor's Fractured History Tear in Doma's shop, which presents yet another challenge by pitting players against both the spawn and Oggdo Bogdo itself.

The battle is incredibly chaotic and unbalanced, surpassing the difficulties of fighting two rancors who unleash split-second unblockable attacks at a surprisingly rapid pace. However, the true detriment lies in the way this Tear disrupts the immersion, transforming the thrilling encounter with the spawn into a mere trivial event rather than the extraordinary discovery it was intended to be on Survivor's intricately crafted planet.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is currently accessible on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with versions for PS4 and Xbox One currently being developed.
