Director Shawn Levy, known for his work on Stranger Things and the Night at the Museum film series, recently shared an update on the progress of his Star Wars movie. In an interview with Collider, Levy mentioned that he and his team had just begun the development process for the sci-fi film before the writer strike in May.
However, due to the Hollywood actors' strike in July, production has now been put on hold indefinitely. "We find ourselves in that uncertain period that many in our industry are currently facing," Levy explained.
Levy's new Real Steel TV series for Disney+ is highly anticipated by fans of the original movie. Levy expressed his own enthusiasm, saying, "I want it just as much as the Real Steel fans, to bring it to life and capture its essence."
Details about Levy's Star Wars film have been kept under wraps, but he has openly admitted that he feels incredibly fortunate to be part of the Star Wars universe, saying, "It's like having won a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore a galaxy far, far away."
"I won't waste this incredible opportunity. I will put in a tremendous amount of effort," he stated.
Levy's ongoing Hollywood strikes have also caused a delay in his current project, Deadpool 3. Despite the challenges, Levy is balancing multiple commitments, including working on additional episodes of Stranger Things, Star Wars, and Deadpool 3. There are even rumors of him potentially directing Avengers: Secret Wars.
Levy's Star Wars movie is one of many in development. Others include films that bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey, a movie from Dave Filoni, and a film about the dawn of the Jedi from James Mangold.
