The production of The Mandalorian Season 4 is gaining momentum, but concerns have arisen among fans about the show's current challenges. The Mandalorian made its debut on Disney+ in 2019 and swiftly became one of the platform's top shows. In subsequent years, two more seasons were released (2020 and 2023), along with spinoffs The Book of Boba Fett (2021) and Ahsoka (2023).
Showrunner Jon Favreau has officially announced that Season 4 of The Mandalorian will be released in February 2023. In fact, he has already completed writing the scripts for all the episodes of the upcoming season. Initially, it appeared that the Star Wars series would return to screens in 2024. However, due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, production was put on hold indefinitely.
Fortunately, the strike has now come to an end, and fans of The Mandalorian are curious about when filming will begin. Luckily, cast member Brendan Wayne has some good news to share on that front.
Fans are concerned about The Mandalorian Season 4
In an Instagram post, Wayne, one of several body doubles for Pedro Pascal, disclosed that the pre-production phase of The Mandalorian is currently being accelerated. When questioned about the implications for the show's filming schedule, Wayne responded that he anticipates Season 4 to commence filming in 2024.
Amidst the Star Wars community, this news initially seems like a reason to rejoice. However, as responses flooded X/Twitter, it became apparent that concern overshadowed joy, primarily due to Pascal's level of involvement—or rather the apprehension of his limited participation.
The primary depiction of The Mandalorian's protagonist Din Djarin, portrayed by the Chilean-American star, is through voice acting. However, there are rare occasions when the former bounty hunter is shown without his helmet, during which Wayne and Lateef Crowder serve as stand-ins for Pascal on the set. Due to Pascal's busy schedule, there is a report that at least one scene in Season 3 of the show had to be revised to keep Din's helmet on.
Many fans are frustrated with this arrangement as they want to see more of Pascal in The Mandalorian. They are concerned that his commitments to projects like Gladiator 2, The Last of Us, and potentially Fantastic Four will further exacerbate the situation in Season 4. There are even fears that it could lead to Din Djarin being sidelined in his own show.
What’s in store in The Mandalorian Season 4?
"Pedro Pascal, who stars as the lead character, has been recording WhatsApp audios directly from his home," one user expressed. Another user added, "It is evident that Pedro is not concerned about being a supporting character and is fine with solely providing his voice." Several other posts echoed these sentiments, with one user proclaiming, "Confirming Pedro Pascal's guest appearance in Season 4, alongside the main cast of Bo Katan and Ahsoka."
In addition to concerns about Pascal's screentime in The Mandalorian Season 4, many fans were also unhappy with the perceived decline in the overall quality of the show. Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni will undoubtedly be hoping to win back these critics, especially since they have a movie in development centered around the "Mandoverse." Not much is known about this untitled blockbuster, except that it will tie together various unresolved plotlines from The Mandalorian and its spinoffs. However, Temuera Morrison, star of The Book of Boba Fett, recently hinted at what fans can expect from the film, comparing it to the style of the Avengers.

As a fan of The Mandalorian, I am thrilled to hear that production for Season 4 is ramping up and that we can expect its release in February 2024. The show has been a huge success since its debut in 2019, and I have been eagerly awaiting the next installment.
However, I share the concerns of other fans about the limited involvement of Pedro Pascal in the upcoming season. Pascal's portrayal of Din Djarin is a crucial element of the show, and his absence would be greatly felt. I understand that Pascal has other commitments, but I hope that the producers can find a way to accommodate his schedule and give fans the Din Djarin they deserve.
Overall, I am excited for the future of The Mandalorian and am confident that Season 4 will be another thrilling addition to the Star Wars saga. I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds and to discovering what new adventures await our beloved characters.
