The Star Wars fandom was hit with a surprise this week - a new Mandalorian movie. However, not everyone is feeling excited about the news. Before the MCU, Star Wars was the franchise that knew how to expand on the big screen. Now, in 2024, all eyes are on the upcoming movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Jon Favreau is set to direct the film, providing a fresh departure from the beloved Star Wars TV shows of recent years. The unexpected pairing of characters will make their big screen debut, catching many fans off guard. Despite the surprising announcement, a large majority of fans seem unbothered, with some expressing a complete lack of emotion.

Star Wars fans have taken to social media to share that they feel “nothing” for the Mandalorian movie announcement.

"Unbelievable how I don't feel anything. 5 years ago, I would've been going crazy," commented one fan on X/Twitter in response to the news. "Season 3 basically showed that this show should've ended after Season 2. The story was finished then," another added.
"So many Star Wars movies have been announced and then scrapped, so I'll wait until I'm actually in the theater and see STAR WARS with the fanfare," a third fan continued, with a fourth person replying, "Exactly. It used to be an event. Now it's just a chore."
Very few details have been released about the upcoming Mandalorian movie, but it is confirmed that Jon Favreau will direct and produce it, with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni also on board as producers. Production for The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to begin later this year. In addition to announcing the movie, Star Wars also quietly shared an update about Ahsoka Season 2, which has garnered significantly more excitement from fans.
One fan expressed, "Currently, the only Star Wars project I'm excited about is Ahsoka Season 2." Another fan chimed in, "It's the best Star Wars show so far! It definitely deserves a third season, to be honest."
However, the same enthusiasm cannot be mustered for the movie or future seasons of The Mandalorian.
One fan expressed disappointment in Season 3, suggesting that a different story for Mando would have been better and that the return of Grogu should have been saved for a more impactful moment. The fan also felt that the writers seemed to be focused on the aftermath of previous events. Another fan echoed this sentiment, stating that two great seasons were enough and that they now want fresh content that continues the story and worldbuilding of the universe.
The Mandalorian movie does not have an official release date yet, leading some fans to speculate that it may not be available to watch until 2026 at the earliest. Explore additional Star Wars content and our upcoming movie and TV hubs below.

As a hard fan of Star Wars, I am deeply disappointed by the lack of excitement and emotional connection among fans towards the announcement of the new Mandalorian movie. The Star Wars franchise has always held a special place in my heart, and I eagerly anticipate each new installment. However, the news of the Mandalorian movie has left me feeling underwhelmed and indifferent.
It is disheartening to see that many fans share my sentiments, expressing a complete lack of emotion or enthusiasm for the upcoming movie. The Mandalorian TV series has been a beloved addition to the Star Wars universe, but it seems that the story has run its course and fans are craving fresh content. The announcement of Ahsoka Season 2 has generated significantly more excitement, indicating that fans are more invested in new characters and storylines rather than revisiting familiar ones.
