Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask DLC was a major upgrade with a good story and interesting new critters.

The Indigo Disk, the upcoming second DLC, transports players to Blueberry Academy where they can embark on an adventure to catch rare and exotic Pokemon. However, recent leaks raise concerns that The Indigo Disk might not fulfill its promise of introducing new Pokemon, possibly resulting in time restrictions on their availability.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC received high praise for its significant improvements over the first expansion for Gen 8 games. The DLC is admired for its engaging storyline and introduction of captivating new Pokemon. Now, all attention turns to the highly anticipated second DLC, The Indigo Disk, which transports players to the Blueberry Academy in Unova for a unique school-life experience and the opportunity to capture rare Pokemon. However, recent leaks suggest that The Indigo Disk may struggle to live up to its promises with its inclusion of new Pokemon.

The Teal Mask DLC does not heavily rely on time restrictions for obtaining the best Pokemon. Players only need to complete the story or fulfill requirements in the Kitakami Pokedex, such as capturing 150 species and obtaining the new Legendaries and Bloodmoon Ursaluna. This allows players to freely explore and make the most of their Kitakami adventure. They can either immerse themselves in exploration or complete the story quickly before achieving other goals, emphasizing player autonomy. Unfortunately, The Indigo Disk may not provide the same level of freedom, which is disappointing.

Why Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk is Likely to Time-Gate New Pokemon

Renowned Pokemon leaker, Riddler Khu, has been providing valuable information about the upcoming expansion. One interesting hint suggests that the Indigo Disk's Dipplin evolution may possess seven heads, making it the first Bug/Dragon-type Pokemon ever. Recently, Khu shared a cryptic post on social media stating "3/8," which initially led some fans to speculate about the DLC release date or future projects from The Pokemon Company.

In previous months, Khu had mentioned that The Indigo Disk DLC would introduce a total of eight new Pokemon. Fans later connected the dots and uncovered the actual list of upcoming creatures. These include the already-revealed Archaludon, Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, and Terapagos. The remaining four Pokemon consist of Dipplin's evolution, a Paradox version of Entei and Terrakion, and the mysterious "peach" master Pokemon that may be linked to The Teal Mask's Loyal Three. The inclusion of Paradox Entei and Terrakion completes their respective trios alongside Raging Bolt and Walking Wake, or Iron Leaves and Iron Crown, respectively, which all fits together cohesively.

Dipplin's evolution was confirmed by The Teal Mask, indicating that the critter can use the Eviolite held item in battle. Moreover, the peach master Pokemon's inclusion would wrap up the narrative of the Loyal Three, and it appears that it will play a significant role in The Indigo Disk's overarching story involving Kieran and other characters from the base game. While the addition of eight new pocket monsters in the expansion is exciting, Khu's "3/8" tweet suggests that only three of them may be part of the base game, with the remaining five potentially being exclusive to events or time-limited promotions.

This situation could pose a significant issue for The Indigo Disk. It is highly likely that all the Paradox critters will eventually become available through Tera Raids, similar to Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. The peach master Pokemon, on the other hand, might be designated as the generation's own Mythical creature. This follows the established patterns of the series. However, it also means that players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may not be able to complete the Pokedex for The Indigo Disk or capture all its exclusive monsters in the near future. Instead, they might have to wait months for the Paradox versions to become accessible, and even longer for the Mythical creature to have its own dedicated event.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
