The Figarland family in the One Piece series is not only pivotal to the plot but also shrouded in mystery. Below, you'll find all the information we currently have on this enigmatic family.
As the One Piece manga enters its Final Saga, the Egghead Island arc has unveiled numerous secrets, with many more awaiting discovery as the story progresses. The series has already shed light on the Reverie flashback and is currently delving into Kuma's history, with occasional references to the God Valley Incident.
Since his debut, Saint Figarland Garling has garnered much attention due to his immense authority, having the power to even condemn a Celestial Dragon to death. Although it has been several months since his introduction, the series has yet to divulge any further information about him. Recently, we caught a glimpse of his younger self in the latest chapter. Given Garling's commanding presence and the fear he instills in the Revolutionary Army, it is highly likely that the Figarland family in One Piece will serve a crucial role in the Final Saga.
Everything we know about the Figarland family in One Piece
Manga Plus
In One Piece, the Figarland family belongs to the royal bloodline of the World Nobles, also known as Celestial Dragons. They trace their ancestry back to the alliance formed by the twenty kingdoms that established the World Government.
The Figarland family's mention first occurs in One Piece Film: Red, when the Gorosei speculate that Uta may be part of the bloodline as she is Shanks' daughter. However, she is actually his adoptive daughter, which means she does not have direct ties to the family.
Currently, Saint Garling Figarland stands as the sole representative of the Figarland family in the renowned anime series, One Piece. Esteemed as the Supreme Commander of God's Knights, Garling also holds the prestigious title of champion, having triumphed in a tournament held in God Valley.
While the extent of Garling's powers remains undisclosed, there are subtle indications that he stands among the paramount figures in the show. Even Monkey D. Dragon, a feared and respected character, perceives Garling as a formidable adversary. Notably, Garling possesses the ability to administer justice to insufferable Celestial Dragons. This was demonstrated through his execution of Donquixote Mjosgard, who courageously opposed his fellow noble peers' intention to enslave the Mermaid Princess Shirahoshi.
Shanks’ connection with Saint Figarland Garling

Despite not being explicitly mentioned in the series, all clues point to Shanks being Garling's son. During the God Valley Incident, Roger discovered Shanks as a baby inside a treasure chest. Additionally, in One Piece Chapter 1095, Garling's appearance from 38 years ago is revealed to be identical to Shanks'.
There is also a possibility that Shanks is aware of his noble lineage. This is evidenced by his meeting with the Gorosei in Chapter 907. The Five Elders granted him access to the Pangea Castle in Marie Geoise, a privilege exclusive to a select few. Considering Shanks is a pirate, it would be unlikely for him to enter such an esteemed location if the inhabitants were unaware of his true identity.
