Crunchyroll, the anime streaming service, has announced that it will now offer a wide selection of Dragon Ball films for streaming. According to a press release, fifteen films from the popular franchise will be added to Crunchyroll's already extensive collection. Currently, seven films are already available, with the remaining eight set to be released in three separate waves.

The Dragon Ball franchise originated with the serialization of the manga in 1984, followed by the anime adaptation in 1986. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most beloved manga and anime franchises worldwide. With six animated series and twenty-one feature-length films, Dragon Ball has captivated audiences for years. Crunchyroll's streaming options will encompass films primarily from the Dragon Ball Z franchise, along with an upcoming Dragon Ball Super film.

Crunchyroll's first wave of releases for the Dragon Ball Z franchise includes several films, such as Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, Dragon Ball Z: World's Finest, Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might, Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge, Dragon Ball Z: Return of Cooler, and Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13. Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone, the first film set within the timeline of the Dragon Ball Z series, was initially released in Japan in 1989 and later arrived in the United States in 1997. Additional films will be added on June 29 and July 6.

On June 29, Crunchyroll will release more films, including Dragonball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming, Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon. Furthermore, on July 9, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and Dragon Ball Super: Broly will complete this extensive collection of films. Covering the years from 1989 to 2018, this selection is truly remarkable, although it does miss a few notable titles. Particularly, the absence of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the most recent film released in 2022, and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods (2013) is interesting. Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F is a sequel to Battle of the Gods, which adds to the intrigue of including one film and excluding another, as both were adapted into early arcs of Dragon Ball Super.

The Dragon Ball franchise's first three films are noticeably absent from the wide range of streaming options. These films, namely Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies, Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle, and Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, have not been included. While the first and third films offer a retelling of the Dragon Ball story with some modifications, the second film presents an entirely original narrative. All three films have been released in English by Funimation. Despite their absence, fans of Dragon Ball Z can still anticipate a marathon of the series, including its films, with Crunchyroll's recent announcement.
