The highly anticipated sequel to the Horimiya anime series, Horimiya: The Missing Pieces (also known as Horimiya: -piece-), was initially announced in March 2023. This adaptation of various stories from the emanga by Daisuke Hagiwara did not make it into the 2021 anime, making it a must-watch for fans of the series. Crunchyroll recently shared the trailer and key visual after the series' stage event at AnimeJapan 2023, and has announced that the upcoming Horimiya anime will be available on their streaming service in July.
Kyoko Hori is a popular high school student who maintains a busy and responsible home life caring for her younger brother, Souta. Her classmate, Izumi Miyamura, appears nerdy and gloomy in comparison. When Miyamura brings Souta home after he has a nosebleed, the two agree to keep each other's true identities a secret from their peers.
The Horimiya manga series, based on the 4-koma manga Hori-san to Miyamura-kun by Hiroki Adachi (penname HERO), was first published in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine in 2011. HERO had self-published the original series on his website, Dokkai Ahen, which ran for 10 volumes from 2007 to 2011. The Horimiya manga, supervised by HERO, ran for 16 volumes from 2011 to 2021. A Horimiya OVA, consisting of six episodes, was produced by studios Gonzo, Hoods Entertainment, Marone, and Studio Kai and released over a period of nine years from 2012 to 2021.
The highly popular 2021 anime series Horimiya was brought to life by CloverWorks, led by director Masashi Ishihama, series scriptwriter Takao Yoshioka, character designer Haruko Iizuka, and composer Masaru Yokoyama. The show aired for 13 episodes from January to April of that year, with Asami Seto as Kyoko Hori and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Miyamura. Horimiya: The Missing Pieces is the upcoming anime adaptation of the manga's untold stories that were not included in CloverWorks' initial adaptation by Hagiwara. The series is set to release in July, during the Summer anime season.
