Marvel Snap's appeal lies in its simplicity, making it easily enjoyable. Once players complete the lengthy tutorial and earn enough credits for card upgrades, they can start collecting new cards for their preferred deck builds. While certain cards may take time to unlock in the collection level tree, players can still have fun exploring customization options and tailoring each deck to their favorite locations. In terms of purely ornamental customization, Marvel Snap now allows players to personalize their decks with a unique title, card back, tagline, and avatar profile icon. These customization items are earned through progression and serve as a way for players to distinguish their individual decks, without affecting the matches they participate in. However, the choice of avatar icon can subtly influence opponents, revealing their potential card strategies and providing a strategic advantage by subverting their expectations.
Marvel Snap’s Avatars Can Be a Hint at Playstyle or Preference
While it is not always foolproof, it is often observed that fans tend to pair an icon with a character from their deck to indicate its presence. For instance, if an icon represents Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, or Star-Lord, it is generally assumed that one or more of the Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel Snap will be included in that player's deck.
However, this strategy can also be used as a deliberate misdirection, where a player chooses an avatar to deceive opponents into believing they possess a specific card, such as the formidable Marvel Snap character Shang-Chi. Additionally, players may select avatars purely based on personal preference for Marvel universe characters. Since a different avatar can be chosen for each deck, using associable character icons can help distinguish them.
The default, anonymous SHIELD agent’s avatar icon can be extremely advantageous. It serves as the initial profile avatar for all Marvel Snap players, indicating that an opponent is new to the game. However, it can also be deliberately chosen to deceive opponents into underestimating their abilities. By using the default avatar, players can conceal any potential card inclusions in their deck until a few turns into a match. Although it may not be visually appealing like a fan-favorite Marvel character, skilled players can gain an early-match advantage by reverting to the default avatar for specific decks.
Card backs have a minimal impact on this advantage as they primarily represent the seasons they were earned in. Similarly, avatar icons are not a reliable indicator of an opponent's deck strategy. However, faceless icons can introduce a clever element of deception, unlike characters that are more specialized or crucial to meta strategies in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap can be enjoyed on both PC and mobile devices.
