Hyrule Castle in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom contains a secret chest that many players were surprised to know existed.
Hidden within the castle are numerous treasures, one of which is a concealed chest in the library containing a valuable gold rupee worth 300 rupees. To reveal this hidden gem, players must ignite the torches scattered throughout the library, which will cause the chest to materialize atop a staircase.
In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Hyrule Castle conceals a secret chest that surprises some players when they discover its existence. Similar to Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom is set in a vast open-world Hyrule, filled with hidden secrets scattered throughout its expansive map, even in familiar locations.
Throughout the almost 40 years of the Zelda series, Hyrule Castle has remained a prominent landmark. However, in Tears of the Kingdom, the castle floats in the sky and is now occupied by Ganondorf's army of monsters. Within the castle, players can uncover a variety of cleverly hidden treasures, one of which is a secret chest found in a dock beneath the castle, containing a certain iconic shield.
Some treasure chests in Tears of the Kingdom require more effort to find, such as the ones buried underground. However, there is one chest that many players may have overlooked, which was brought to the attention of the Tears of the Kingdom community by a Reddit user known as Middleman86. In their post, Middleman86 explained that if players light the torches in the castle library, a chest would appear at the top of a staircase. Inside the chest, there is a gold rupee, valued at 300 rupees.
Another member of the subreddit, named davidmullings, came across Middleman86's post and decided to test the claim. Davidmullings recorded their attempt and confirmed the existence of a secret chest in the castle library, containing the most valuable rupee in the game. The video showcases davidmullings guiding Link through the library, shooting fused flaming arrows at the torches positioned along the two staircases on either end. As the torches are lit, a chest emerges from a patch of dirt on the floor at the top of one of the staircases. Although not a rupee farm, the chest does hold a gold rupee worth 300 rupees.
Members of the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit were taken aback to discover that the chest was concealed in a location they had frequented numerous times. Some found amusement in the fact that despite the crafty hiding spot behind an unknown puzzle, the chest only held a gold rupee and not the highly anticipated strong shield or powerful sword, as some had speculated in the subreddit.
The highly anticipated game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, can now be enjoyed on the Nintendo Switch.
