Ed Sheeran denies rumors of constructing a "crypt" behind his home but admits to building a chapel on his property to honor lost loved ones who were cremated.
In addition to using the sanctuary for hosting wedding ceremonies for his friends, Sheeran also made the decision to create his own final resting place. This was done so that his children would have a place to remember him after his passing. He described it as a simple hole in the ground with a stone covering. Sheeran acknowledged that some may find this unusual or dark, but he has seen friends pass away without leaving wills, and this has made him realize the importance of planning for the future.
Sheeran has faced significant loss in recent years. In 2021, he mourned the death of his mentor, Michael Gudinski, who passed away at the age of 68. During Gudinski's memorial service in Australia, Sheeran performed a heartfelt song called "Visiting Hours," which he had written as a tribute to his late friend. Tragically, Sheeran also experienced the loss of his best friend, Jamal Edwards, who died at the age of 31, and shortly after, his close friend and cricketer Shane Wane.
While Sheeran openly expresses his grief through his music, he prefers to keep the majority of his personal life away from the public eye.
Sheeran resides at his estate in Framlingham, U.K., which he allegedly acquired for $5 million. He is accompanied by his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters, Lyra (3 years old) and Jupiter (17 months old).
In January 2018, Sheeran and Seaborn revealed their engagement before privately getting married in the subsequent year. Sheeran publicly acknowledged their union in his 2019 track "Remember the Name," featuring Eminem and 50 Cent.

Ed Sheeran revealed that he had written the song before he and his wife, Cherry, tied the knot. In an interview with Charlemagne The God in July 2019, he shared his anticipation of people realizing their marital status upon hearing the song. However, he acknowledged that the information had already been made public.
In December 2019, Sheeran made an announcement about his decision to take a break from the music industry. Then, in September 2020, the couple shared the joyful news of their first child's arrival. Via Instagram, the Grammy winner expressed their overwhelming love for their baby and stated that both the mother and the baby are doing incredibly well. They appealed for privacy during this time and expressed their gratitude and love to their fans, signing off as "Ed x."
During an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021, Sheeran shared that he took a break from his career to search for greater meaning in life. He explained to the talk show host, who is 65 years old, that he realized he lacked purpose beyond music. Giving himself time off from work didn't bring him joy because he truly loves making music. However, becoming a father has given him a sense of purpose and something in life that holds greater importance than his job.
Five months later, Sheeran announced the arrival of his daughter, Jupiter, in a subtle manner. He posted a picture on Instagram of the newborn's socks with a caption revealing the news. He expressed his love for his daughter and joy at becoming a family of four.
Since coming back to his art, Sheeran's two daughters have been the initial audience for his latest music, which includes his albums "Equals" and "Subtract" released in October 2021 and May 2023, respectively.
Recently, Sheeran released his most recent project titled Autumn Variations. Sheeran revealed to GQ on Wednesday that he created this record, consisting of 14 songs, on his personal label. Each song is dedicated to a loved one and aims to capture the sudden transition from summer to fall in England.
“I don’t want people to confuse its nature. I don’t want them to perceive this as my upcoming mainstream hit and assume that I will be performing it in massive arenas and such. It truly is an album dedicated to the autumn season that I wanted to release,” he expressed to the publication. “And I am aware that in 20 years from now, it will be beloved by fans, but currently, nobody really comprehends what it truly represents.”
"I don’t want people mistaking what it is. I don’t want people thinking this is my next pop blockbuster and I’m gonna tour this in the stadiums and stuff. It very much is an album about autumn that I wanted to put out there," he told the outlet. "And I know in 20 years’ time it’s gonna be a fan favorite, but at the moment nobody really knows what it is."
