A new Ed Sheeran album? That calls for a drink.

Sheeran, 32, believed this when he released his new album Autumn Variations. In a video posted on Friday, September 29, the singer of "Eyes Closed" announced that he treated some lucky New Yorkers to a free night out. "To celebrate the release of my album, I'm going on a pub crawl," Sheeran stated to the camera, as a scene showed him pouring an astonishing number of vodka shots.

Sheeran explained that his plan for the evening was to visit random bars and cover the cost of drinks for the next six hours. Following that, Sheeran and his crew headed to a local bar. "We are at the first bar. I am having my first drink," he disclosed. "I have bought everyone a drink in the bar ... but we are not finished yet."

Whereas you think Sheeran couldn't get a pint without being swarmed with fans, he appeared to be relatively unruffled and solitary in that initial pub. However, Sheeran admitted that they chose to embark on this pub crawl when folks were "finishing work" and might not be inclined to drink alongside the pop sensation. Instead, he made a promise to shift the celebration to another location. "We are going to the f–king place where people want to go for it!"

After hopping on a subway and greeting a fan who recognized him, Sheeran discovered a lively bar with a more vibrant atmosphere. Fun games like beer pong and shots were enjoyed before Sheeran ventured to Off The Wagon in the East Village for more rounds of shots. The crowd even started chanting "Ed! Ed! Ed!" towards the end.

"We're calling it a night," Sheeran stated in the video. "We tried the first place, but it wasn't happening. The next spot? No luck either. We hopped on the subway, and voila! Here we are. I'm feeling quite intoxicated at the moment. Anyway, Autumn Variations is currently available."

Thank You!

Sheeran unveiled his latest album, Autumn Variations, in August. This marks his second release of 2023, following the earlier drop of his album Subtract in May. The album was produced by Aaron Dressner, known for his contributions to Taylor Swift's Folklore and Evermore, as well as various tracks on Fearless (Taylor's Version), Red (Taylor's Version), and Midnights (3 am Edition). It is speculated that Dressner's involvement in Sheeran's project may have been facilitated through Sheeran's close friendship with Taylor Swift, who has collaborated with Dressner on previous projects. Additionally, Dressner had previously collaborated with Sheeran on his album Subtract.

"When collaborating with Aaron Dessner on Subtract, the connection was instant," revealed Sheeran during the announcement of Autumn Variations. "Our creativity flowed effortlessly as we wrote and recorded without pause, ultimately giving birth to this album. I firmly believe that Dessner has beautifully encapsulated the essence of autumn in his music, and I sincerely hope that it resonates with everyone as much as it does with me."

Reflecting on a challenging period at the beginning of the previous year, Sheeran shared, "Songwriting became my solace during that difficult time, helping me comprehend my emotions and come to terms with the circumstances. As I became aware of the varying situations faced by my friends, I wrote songs from their perspectives as well as mine, capturing how we individually perceived the world during that period."
