Star Wars Outlaws, set to launch on PC next year, may not be available on the popular Steam platform. After nearly two years of speculation, Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment unveiled their new open-world Star Wars game at June's Summer Game Fest. In Star Wars Outlaws, players will assume the role of Kay Vess, a young scoundrel aiming to execute an extraordinary heist during the oppressive rule of the Galactic Empire.
Although the release of Star Wars Outlaws is still months away, significant details about its setting, characters, and gameplay have already been disclosed. The recent Ubisoft Forward 2023 livestream showcased players taking control of Kay as she undertakes various tasks for different criminal factions in the Star Wars universe. Additionally, players will issue commands to Kay's loyal companion Nix and engage in intense dogfights against enormous Imperial spacecraft. Remarkably, the supporting cast of Star Wars Outlaws has generated substantial online discussion, particularly regarding the striking resemblance between Kay's enigmatic partner Jalen and Kyle Katarn from the classic Star Wars: Jedi Knight games.
Plenty of fans eagerly anticipate delving into the gritty criminal underworld of the Star Wars galaxy in Star Wars Outlaws. However, it appears that the game may not be available on one of the most popular digital platforms in the industry at launch. Ubisoft's official webpage for Star Wars Outlaws lists the platforms on which the game will be released, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Ubisoft Connect. Notably absent from this list is Steam, the go-to platform for many PC gamers. As a result, speculations have arisen that Star Wars Outlaws will only be accessible through Ubisoft's proprietary PC gaming store upon its release.
The upcoming release of Star Wars Outlaws may not be available on Steam at launch, indicating a potential departure from the traditional PC game distribution platform. While it is possible that the absence of a Steam mention on the game's webpage is a temporary oversight or that it may be added to Steam in the future, the current information suggests that this highly anticipated triple-A Star Wars game may opt for a different distribution platform.
