Trader's Tender is now available for purchase with real money in World of Warcraft, going against previous assurances from Blizzard and upsetting the community.
The initial purchase from the in-game store, called the Corsage Pack, consists of two wrist corsage transmogs and 200 Trader's Tender to be utilized at the Trading Post.
Players are expressing concern about the current availability of Trader's Tender solely in one bundle, as they worry about the potential establishment of a problematic trend where future cosmetic bundles may offer larger amounts of Trader's Tender as a bonus incentive.
The Trader's Tender for the Trading Post in World of Warcraft is now up for sale with real money. This decision has stirred up controversy as it goes against previous indications from World of Warcraft, leading to frustration among the community.
Earlier this year, WoW introduced the Trading Post, which allows players to collect Trader's Tender each month and use it to buy items from a changing selection. However, players recently uncovered evidence suggesting that Blizzard had plans to sell Trader's Tender in the in-game store – a concern that was apparently addressed by World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas in July.
World of Warcraft has introduced its first in-game store purchase, featuring Trader's Tender. The Corsage Pack is a $5 bundle that includes two simple wrist corsage transmogs and 200 Trader's Tender for use at the Trading Post. The WoW cosmetics will be available on the Trading Post in the future, but the bundle can only be purchased once, so players cannot acquire an unlimited amount of Trader's Tender at the moment.
World of Warcraft did not technically deceive players by adding this new Trader's Tender bundle. In an interview, Hazzikostas mentioned that Blizzard was considering adding Trader's Tender to "some significant bundles," using the example of the stipend given to players who purchased Dragonflight. However, most players interpreted his statement to mean that WoW would be adding them to major bundles and expansion purchases, rather than smaller cosmetic bundles with items players may not necessarily desire.
World of Warcraft has made Trader's Tender exclusively available in a single bundle on the shop, limiting players' ability to purchase the currency directly. Although not ideal, this ensures that players still have the opportunity to obtain Trader's Tender through in-game activities.
However, the introduction of the Corsage Bundle sets a concerning precedent. Players are worried that in the future, there may be more cosmetic items featuring larger quantities of Trader's Tender as a bonus incentive. These players feel frustrated with Hazzikostas' misleading statements and believe that the Trading Post, an otherwise highly-regarded feature, is being negatively impacted by a focus on profit. It is hoped that Blizzard will find a balance going forward, either by reconsidering the decision to include Trader's Tender in cash shop bundles or by increasing the amount of currency that can be earned in-game as compensation.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
