A player has shared a clip highlighting a major issue with the functionality of the Sages in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Despite the game's overall positive reception from fans and critics, there are concerns regarding the way the Sages operate. While Tears of the Kingdom impresses players with its ability to unleash the creative potential of ordinary individuals through a range of powerful abilities and tools, not every new addition functions as smoothly as desired.
In Tears of the Kingdom, the Sages serve as spiritual avatars of characters that Link encounters at different stages of the main quest. Each Sage possesses a distinct ability, such as Tulin, a member of the bird-like Rito race, who can generate a powerful gust of wind with the press of a button. This proves useful for extending gliding distance or pushing an enemy off a cliff. However, despite the usefulness of all the Sages' abilities, fans have noted that the game's implementation of the Sages can feel problematic and cluttered, as exemplified by a situation where one player's Sages congregated on a Battle Talus.
A player of Tears of the Kingdom, known as gwartabig, shared a clip on the game's subreddit that effectively highlights the problem with Sages. While gliding around Zora's Domain, gwartabig landed on a small area with a rock in the center. When they tried to pick up the rock by pressing the A button, all the Sages instantly appeared around Link, causing one of the game's persisting issues.
The power of a Sage becomes accessible when Link is in close proximity. The A button is used by players to activate this power. gwartabig simply wanted to reveal a Korok and collect its seed, but instead unintentionally activated the powers of three different Sages. Two main problems arise from this situation. Firstly, players have no control over which Sages appear while they are active. It is an all-or-nothing scenario. Secondly, all Sage powers are triggered by pressing the A button, the same button used for interacting with the game world. This odd implementation leads to accidental activation of Sage powers in unfavorable moments.
While much of Tears of the Kingdom exudes a polished charm, there is one aspect that stands out as peculiar. Numerous players, including gwartabig, have brought attention to the cluttered and cumbersome nature of a particular system. Despite the enjoyment derived from creatively tormenting Koroks, the deficient Sage companion system led gwartabig to mistakenly unleash a barrage of undeserved attacks upon the unfortunate Korok. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can now be played on the Nintendo Switch.
