Foundation returns on July 14th, ending the long wait for its second season. In this new chapter, the seeds of rebellion against the evil Empire are sown. The followers of Hari Seldon, played by Jared Harris, rise in both number and power. Meanwhile, Gaal Dornick, portrayed by Lou Llobell, and her child Salvor Hardin, played by Leah Harvey, must flee from Synnax to fulfill their roles in the revolutionary field of Psychohistory. The Apple TV series draws inspiration from the influential book series written by Isaac Asimov, with David S. Goyer at the helm as the television adaptation's creator.
Besides Lou Llobell's captivating performance, Foundation boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Lee Pace, Laura Birn, and Cassian Bilton. As season 2 progresses, even more intriguing characters and narratives, including Kulvinder Ghir and Ella-Rae Smith, will be introduced. This expansion brings the show closer to the anticipated downfall of the Empire, a prophecy foretold by both Hari and Gaal.
Lou Llobell Talks Foundation Season 2
Screen Rant interviewed Llobell to discuss Gaal's emotional journey upon meeting her biological daughter in the second season of Foundation. In addition, Llobell shared insights about the altering dynamics between Gaal and Hari, as well as the exciting multitude of new worlds that the trio explores together.Screen Rant: Experiencing Gaal's revelation of an unknown daughter has been a captivating journey. How would you describe the unique dynamics between them? On one hand, you share genetic ties, but on the other, you exist in a time a century away from Gaal's familiar world.
Lou Llobell: It's an unbelievable situation because you have no choice but to embrace and accept this person into your life. You are also the last two surviving individuals and must work together to escape this planet, which immediately throws you into an incredibly intense scenario that naturally bonds you.
However, what's interesting about the first episode is how they navigate through all of this. Salvor was initially disappointed with Gaal's lack of openness, but Gaal simply responds by saying, "We don't know each other yet. Let's approach this step by step, but who knows what the future holds." I believe this is the most authentic and genuine reaction to such a challenging circumstance.
Despite Hari and Gaal being a crucial duo in the initial season, the current version of Hari that we encounter in this season has been profoundly influenced by a century of seclusion. How does this transformation impact their partnership and alter Gaal's perception of him?
Lou Llobell sympathizes with Gaal's lack of knowledge and absolves her of any blame for the situation. Right from the start, they clash with each other and it appears that there is no feasible resolution in sight for their conflicts.
Salvor serves as a protective barrier from the start, which is great, but the growth of their relationship throughout the season is truly captivating. It is amazing to witness where they ultimately end up and how it evolves into something distinct and potentially more uplifting.
Regarding the central inquiry of psychohistory, what are your thoughts? Does a designated individual exist? Can someone genuinely alter the trajectory of events, or is everything predetermined from a mathematical standpoint?
Lou Llobell believes that Gaal does not even consider the possibility that her visions are real. According to Lou, Gaal is uncertain and hesitant about accepting the truth of her visions because it would mean that their reality is grim. It is terrifying to possess such knowledge and not want to share or frighten others or even internally accept it. The math supports a particular viewpoint, but it is not entirely conclusive. Therefore, one must question what to rely on and believe in. Lou Llobell finds herself positioned in the middle, holding a similar viewpoint as Gaal.
Where in the Galactic Empire would you like Gaal and her team to visit once they leave this planet?
Lou Llobell: This season takes them to various exciting locations, but my personal favorite is Ignus. It's a stunning place with a captivating and mysterious charm, reminiscent of Earth. It's truly a delightful experience to witness their journey unfold throughout the season.
