The second season of Foundation is set to premiere on July 14, immediately following the 130-year time jump from the previous season. While two years have passed in the real world, fans have eagerly awaited the continuation of Apple TV+'s captivating sci-fi series. Based on the renowned novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation delves into the journey of a group of exiled individuals from the Galactic Empire, as they gear up to wage war against the ruling Genetic Dynasty that has dominated for centuries.
Salvor Hardin, a former leader of the Foundation outpost, portrayed by the talented actress Leah Harvey, finds herself stranded on the abandoned planet once inhabited by her biological mother, Gaal Dornick, portrayed by Lou Llobell. In the gripping finale of Foundation season 1, Salvor and Gaal finally come face-to-face. Joining them in season 2 will be an incarnation of the renowned Psychohistory expert, Hari Seldon. Together, this trio will play their part in orchestrating the downfall of the Empire.
Leah Harvey Talks Foundation Season 2
: Harvey Discusses Salvor's Response to Gaal's Unexpected Meeting, Jared Harris on Set, and Favorite Filming Location in Foundation Season 2Salvor is an incredibly captivating character. It's truly wonderful to have the opportunity to portray a character who shares a biological connection with my on-screen mother this season. Acting alongside another individual who shares my DNA is a unique and surreal experience for both the character and myself. Can you imagine the intriguing dynamics that unfold when performing with a fellow DNA sharer?
Leah Harvey: Sharing DNA on-screen? I find that intriguing. It has been a delightful experience for me, especially because we didn't have many scenes together in the first season. Now, we have the opportunity to delve into the complexities of our characters' relationship, as well as our personal connection as individuals and fellow actors. It has truly been a wonderful exploration, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
As Salvor, you are rediscovering a part of yourself while being completely disconnected from everyone you knew in the past. All those people are long gone, a century away. How does Salvor cope with this reality, and how does it shape her actions in this season?
Leah Harvey expresses that losing something significant or finding oneself far removed from the familiar is indeed significant. However, the silver lining lies in the fact that both Gaal and Salvor share this experience, which brings them solace and connection. It is truly beautiful to witness their vulnerability and the exchange of such personal aspects of their lives.
Additionally, spending ample time with Hari proves to be an enjoyable experience. The opportunity to be in the presence of Jared Harris and witness his portrayal of a character so drastically altered by a century of seclusion adds to the excitement.
Leah Harvey: In season 1, we witness two distinct versions of Haris, which adds an intriguing element for Salvor as she tries to decipher the situation.
Collaborating with Jared was an absolute pleasure. He is an incredibly talented actor. The three of us had a blast, constantly playfully teasing each other and sharing many laughs. Needless to say, there were numerous outtakes.
Our journey begins on a desolate and deserted planet, but soon we will venture into the breathtaking realms of the Galactic Empire. Are there any destinations that have caught your attention this season, or perhaps locations that you eagerly anticipate for Salvor to explore in the near future?
Leah Harvey: Filming in Prague was an amazing experience. The sets were truly stunning, with gigantic rocks that made it feel like we were on a different planet. It was an incredible opportunity to witness such beauty and to be able to work in that location. Prague is truly breathtaking, and I feel fortunate to have had the chance to be there.
Psychohistory appears to be a complex concept that might be challenging for some to comprehend, much like Mr. Asimov's work may be difficult to understand for certain individuals. How would you define Psychohistory, and how does Salvor perceive it?
Leah Harvey: Psychohistory, in my understanding, is the study of human behavior where an algorithm is used to predict their future actions based on their past actions. This is how I would explain it.
I believe Salvor doesn't fully grasp it in the same way Gaal does. However, she recognizes its significance and has been educated about it since childhood. It's like how we learn math at school, she learned about Psychohistory. She understands the concept, but not entirely. In simpler terms, she doesn't speak the language of math.
