Foundation Season 2 is set to premiere on July 14, marking the anticipated portrayal of the Galactic Empire's downfall in the Apple TV+ sci-fi series. The show, which is based on the acclaimed novels by Isaac Asimov and adapted for television by David S. Goyer, follows a group of exiles as they strive to rebuild civilization. In Season 1, the Genetic Dynasty experienced its peak, but over the course of a century, the influential Foundation has significantly grown in both size and authority.
Brother Dawn, portrayed by Cassian Bilton, is the youngest surviving member of the Genetic Dynasty. As the next in line to become "Brother Day," the Empire's primary ruler, his position is uncertain. Following the revelation in Foundation's Season 1 finale that the Cleons' DNA had been compromised, subsequent generations have gradually become less identical to the original clone. Season 2 commences with Brother Day preparing to wed Sareth of Cloud Dominion, potentially altering the succession of rulership and casting doubt on Dawn's future as the Empire's leader.
Cassian Bilton Talks Foundation Season 2
: Bilton on Portraying a New Dawn in Foundation Season 2, His Character's Perception of Queen Sareth, and the Seamless Bond with Fellow Cleons.Screen Rant: Losing Dawn, who was color-blind and left-hearted, was truly heartbreaking for me. Now, stepping into the shoes of a new Dawn, with a distinct and separate consciousness, adds an intriguing layer to the experience.
Cassian Bilton: The challenge was immense. I distinctly remember arriving on set for the first day of season 2 and questioning, "Hey, everyone. Is this character still the same or has he transformed?" Despite fitting into the family dynamics in a similar way, working with the same actors, and being dressed in a comparable costume, the previous version of the character has vanished, as you mentioned. Similar to you, I have a deep affection for the Dawn we initially encountered in season 1, and I felt genuine regret bidding farewell to that iteration.
Now, it's an entirely different Dawn. He closely resembles Lee's Brother Day, exuding a sense of tranquility, self-assurance, and relaxation. Moreover, he possesses sharper instincts. The younger version of Dawn in season 1 seemed lost in his thoughts and consumed by his own sorrow, whereas this incarnation exhibits a more composed demeanor.
This may be the first time one of them introduces a partner, Sareth, who quickly remarks, "Oh, I suppose you're no longer in the line of succession." How does this dynamic between Dawn and Sareth affect your perception of Day?
Dusk may find it frustrating, but Day finds it both exciting and threatening, while Dawn takes a more optimistic approach, wanting to see how things unfold and enjoy the experience. However, it's important to remember that Dawn recently faced an assassination attempt, making life in the Imperial Palace far from simple.
Referring to the increasing tension between the brothers, how does this affect your collaboration with Lee and Terry as you work on various versions?
The fascinating aspect of season 2 is the extensive time we spent shooting season 1. As a result, Lee, Terry, Laura, and I had ample opportunity to bond both on and off the set. Our diligent efforts are now ingrained in our work, effortlessly arising in similarities without intentional mimicry. There are numerous serendipitous moments where we unknowingly sync up, like when we hold a prop in the same manner. We have developed a deeper trust in our performances due to our increased familiarity with these characters. Lee and Terry, in particular, have been incredibly supportive, making them exceptional brothers in every way.
