Ubisoft has officially announced Star Wars Outlaws, an upcoming third-person action-adventure game that aims to highlight an often overlooked aspect of the Star Wars universe. The game centers around the character Kay Vess, a scoundrel who pays tribute to the legendary smuggler Han Solo. Kay, like her inspiration, pilots her own ship and operates alongside fellow criminals, wielding a blaster instead of a lightsaber. In a nod to Han Solo's iconic partnership with Chewbacca, Kay is accompanied by her own loyal companion named Nix.
An important element showcased in both the debut trailer and gameplay preview of Star Wars Outlaws is the dynamic between Kay and Nix. Initially seen assisting Kay in stealing valuable cargo during cinematic sequences, Nix may have been mistaken for nothing more than a charming game mascot. However, when navigating through the Pyke Syndicate chop shop, Nix proves to be a valuable asset during actual gameplay, aiding Kay in her endeavors. While players have never had the opportunity to have a companion like Yoda to assist them in gameplay, both Yoda and Nix share a similar trait in terms of their mysterious species backgrounds.
Nix Introduces the Merqaal Race to Star Wars
Nix's gameplay elements and connection to the protagonist are clear, but the origin of this creature remains a mystery. The Merqaal, a new and rare species, is unlike anything else in the galaxy. With its unique physiology and apparent intelligence, Nix stands out as a truly unique alien in the Star Wars universe. While there may be no other known Merqaals, Nix's background is reminiscent of a beloved character from the classic franchise - the diminutive yet powerful Master Yoda. Serving as Luke Skywalker's Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi Council, Yoda's impressive abilities and qualifications bear resemblance to Nix's companion, Kay.
Master Yoda and Nix Both Originate from Unknown Homeworlds
The origins of Nix and Yoda draw intriguing parallels. Nix, a member of the enigmatic Merqaal race, hails from an unknown home planet. Similarly, Yoda, belonging to a nameless race, comes from a mysterious origin referred to as "Yoda's race" in the Star Wars canon.
Both Nix and Yoda's species share the same fate of obscurity, with very few members of their respective races being seen throughout the history of Star Wars. This parallel only further emphasizes the mystique surrounding these diminutive characters, as few races in the Star Wars galaxy are treated with such intrigue.
Fans of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu, may have noticed a striking resemblance between the adorable charm of Nix's species and that of Yoda's. This connection leads to speculation that the mysterious history of Nix's species, much like Yoda's, may remain unexplored. However, eager fans will have to exercise patience and wait until Star Wars Outlaws is released in 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S to uncover the truth.
