Tears of the Kingdom Player Builds Machine That Looks Like a Separatist Droid Tank

A player of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom showed off their ingenuity by building and showing off a droid tank reminiscent of the ones used by the Trade Federation and the Separatists of Star Wars. The Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fan recorded footage of the tank in action and shared it with other players on social media.

The Inspiration from Star Wars

The Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player showcased their ingenuity by building a droid tank reminiscent of the ones used by the Trade Federation and the Separatists of Star Wars. The tank took its inspiration from the Armored Assault Tank, or AAT, used by the Trade Federation droids in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. This tank was an essential part of the Confederacy's ground units and was capable of holding up to six passengers, 11 cannons, and a 12-missile payload. The design of the AAT inspired the Zelda player to give their spin on the armored assault vehicle, resulting in the creation of the Hyrulean Autonomous Assault Tank, or HyAAT, by a Redditor named slowdruh.

The HyAAT was built and showcased on the r/HyruleEngineering subreddit, using a mixture of Zonai devices in Tears of the Kingdom and Link's Autobuild. The tank was outfitted with a large cannon at the top of the hull and had two side cannons that could take down foes within the immediate vicinity. However, despite its potential for serious damage in Tears of the Kingdom, the HyAAT had some drawbacks, including slow movement and high battery consumption. This required players to have methods of recharging on hand, and the tank was not able to withstand a frontal charge from a Queen Gibdo.

Slowdruh, the creator of the HyAAT, received compliments from other Zelda fans, who acknowledged the patience and inspiration required to design and craft the assault tank. With a plethora of ways for players to express their creativity and save Hyrule in the process, it's no surprise that Tears of the Kingdom is one of the top Nintendo Switch games of 2023.
