Content: Netflix's highly anticipated live-adaptation of the beloved anime One Piece is set to premiere on the streaming platform soon. As excitement builds for the opportunity to see Monkey D. Luffy's tale come alive once more, the cast and crew of the show recently made a thrilling and significant announcement at The Anime Expo 2023 in Los Angeles.

Originally airing on Fuji TV in October 1999, the One Piece anime series is a captivating adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's renowned Manga. The narrative revolves around the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a spirited young boy who yearns for a life of freedom. Joined by his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy embarks on an exhilarating journey to uncover a fabled treasure and claim the title of King of the Pirates. In July 2017, it was revealed that Tomorrow Studios would spearhead the development of a live-adaptation series to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the franchise. However, it wasn't until 2020 that Netflix greenlit the production of the first season, which would consist of ten thrilling episodes helmed by the talented duo of Matt Owens and Steven Maeda.

The cast of the series, including Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar, have started a press tour to promote the upcoming release on August 31. As part of the tour, they attended The Anime Expo in Los Angeles over the 4th of July holiday weekend. Deadline reports that they released a video during the convention, featuring Godoy, who plays Luffy, traveling to Japan to meet voice actress Mayumi Tanaka, who voiced the same character in the anime series. In the video, they expressed gratitude for their commitment to the character and announced that Tanaka would reprise the role of Luffy in the dubbed version of the Netflix show.

The cast also made an appearance at the Expo where they announced that the rest of the original cast, including Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, and Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji, would return to voice their roles once again. It was also revealed that Godoy and Skylar would lend their voices to the Spanish version of the show, voicing the characters of Sanji and Luffy. At the end of the video, Godoy asked the question, "So dubs or subs?"

It is no wonder that these actors are eager to be part of the story, considering that One Piece is beloved by fans and an extremely faithful adaptation of one of the longest-running Manga series ever, along with being one of the longest anime series with over 1,000 episodes released so far.

The arrival of One Piece on Netflix is scheduled for August 31, 2023.
