Marvel's Spider-Man 2 boasts not one, but two superheroes - Peter Parker and Miles Morales - both equipped with their unique strengths and weaknesses. Despite their differences, the duo's combined efforts prove to be an effective force in safeguarding New York City. However, their mettle is tested when they come face-to-face with Venom, the most formidable adversary they have encountered thus far. As the origin of the symbiote remains shrouded in mystery, Peter must rely on Miles to help him overcome the dark influence of the black suit and defeat this menacing foe.
Peter is Succumbing to His Darker Side in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
In the recent PlayStation Showcase, the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 gameplay trailer unveiled a symbiote-infused Peter Parker to the world. The Venom symbiote enhances Peter's existing Spider-Man powers, such as his Spider-Sense and super strength, while also providing him with new black tendrils for combat and traversal. This unique feature distinguishes Insomniac Games' version from other iterations of the Venom symbiote suit. However, using these powers has a price. As the trailer progresses, Peter's behavior becomes increasingly uncharacteristic. He hesitates when faced with the choice of saving civilians or pursuing the Lizard, and his usual humorous personality is replaced by a more serious and determined demeanor. Ultimately, he decides to go after the Lizard solo, without the aid of Miles. Even Miles notes this change in Peter's behavior, remarking to Ganke that his mentor has never acted like this before.
Miles' Experience Will Help Peter Remember What It Means To Be A Hero
Miles is Peter's best hope for saving him from the clutches of the Venom symbiote. As Peter's closest confidant and someone who has experienced loss in his own life, Miles is uniquely positioned to empathize with Peter's struggle against his darker urges. Despite his lack of experience as Spider-Man, Miles' personal tragedies have given him a deep well of emotions to draw from, which could prove critical in reaching Peter and convincing him to shed the black suit. And if words fail, Miles has a secret weapon: his Venom powers, which allow him to generate powerful energy blasts that could be used to subdue the symbiote and free Peter from its grip.
In the promotional material for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, there are hints that Miles may use his Venom powers to save Peter. As the tendrils of Venom start to take over the Spider-Man symbol and tagline, blasts of electricity resembling Miles' unique Venom powers push back against them. While it may seem like a stretch, the two Spider-Men will require all available resources to fight their new enemies, making it possible that Miles will use force alongside his words. PlayStation 5 users can expect the game to launch this fall.
