Here's a sneak peek at what we know about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Spoilers ahead!
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release date
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s release has been delayed indefinitely, according to a report by Deadline.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creators of the film, recently discussed the release with Digital Spy, indicating that it will be released "when it is ready." However, due to recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there have been delays. Lord mentioned that they are working hard on the film and are committed to taking the time needed to make it great. There are also doubts about the original 2024 release date, as animators have reported last-minute changes to renders, with one stating that it is unlikely the movie will be released in 2024.
The duo also announced that this would be their last Miles Morales movie, with Miller telling Entertainment Tonight, “That’s the end for us. We’re exhausted!”
Sony Pictures
The release date for Across the Spider-Verse was initially scheduled for April 8, 2022, but due to global restrictions and other delays, it was first moved to October and then to June 2023.
Dos Santos told Collider, "We are immensely grateful to have successfully completed this project, that's where we stand at the moment."
Is there a Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse trailer?
"Obviously, when we initially planned it, we developed the storyline for both of these movies. But it came down to the last minute, and right now the main priority is to give everyone a much-needed break. However, it's important to know that this is the second part of a planned three-part series, which was decided before the making of this film, and there will indeed be a third part. That's pretty much all we can disclose at this point."
At the moment, there is no trailer available for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse... but it’s possible that one will be released soon. The teaser for Across the Spider-Verse was unveiled in December 2021, when the sequels were initially intended to be titled Part 1 and 2. A year later, we finally received the first official trailer, with another one following just a month before the movie’s release.
So, we’re expecting a teaser to drop over the next couple of months, but we’ll update this space as soon as it appears online.

Lord announced to Deadline that all of the fan-favorite characters will be returning in "BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE." It will provide a very satisfying conclusion with even deeper emotional depth. (Source: Deadline)
Lord and Miller, in an interview with Collider, revealed that there will be new characters introduced in the third movie, expanding the Spider-Verse even further. "Believe it or not, you thought you've seen every Spider-Person imaginable, but there are still more Spider-Person characters that we can imagine," Lord stated. Miller also chimed in saying, "We saved several!"
Oscar Isaac has expressed his desire for Pedro Pascal to be involved in 'BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE'. He suggested that Pascal play a cranky, old Spider-Person.

Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse plot
This is your final spoiler warning for Across the Spider-Verse.
Sony Pictures
Miles is left in a difficult predicament: stranded on Earth-42 with an antagonistic counterpart – Miles G. Morales – who serves as that universe’s Prowler. He was also wrongly associated with the “Sinister Six Cartel”, but recent information leak revealed his true background and role in his universe.
Lord and Miller are excited about the potential for more development of the new Miles, considering what he would be like if he was mentored by his uncle, instead of his father. They urge people not to judge the character at first glance, as there is much more to learn about him. Powers also shared his excitement about the character, noting that the alternate Miles is visually different and offers a unique exploration of who he could have been in a different world.

A recently leaked page from the official Art of Across the Spider-Verse describes Earth-42 Miles Morales, also known as The Prowler, as a "Vigilante" and reveals that he had a completely different upbringing from the Earth-1610 version of Miles. According to director Justin K. Thompson, in the book, Miles comes face to face with this other version of himself and realizes that one small change can lead to larger changes in an entire reality, as explained by the "butterfly effect". This creative choice led to the character being named Miles G. Morales.
Before the final version of Wiles was completed, I created a temporary version for an early 3D test by modifying Miles from ITSV. Based on the concept that Wiles needs to navigate without being Spider-Man, we posed the question, "What if Wiles and Aaron relied on each other to move around?" #AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/RDmoW3oZZo

Meanwhile, Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Woman are collaborating with fellow members of the Spider Society to locate Miles, as his actions could lead to the collapse of multiple universes – he’s the “original anomaly” in the timeline, so he must be stopped.
Gwen was expelled from the group for attempting to aid Miles, but with the assistance of Spider-Punk’s multiverse-hopping watch – who we’re about to learn more about next time – she manages to reach out to Peter B. Parker and others to locate her friend.

Prior to dealing with the Spot, who is determined to annihilate universes and inevitably cause the demise of Miles' father unless stopped, there is also the matter of Spot's increased size and ferocity in Spider-Verse 3, as stated by voice actor Jason Schwartzman. According to Lord and Miller, Miles' story turned out to be so expansive that instead of a single movie, it demanded two.
In a recent interview with Variety, co-directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, they discussed Miles' upcoming challenge in the third film, describing it as a "major problem that is not so simple to solve."
"It was crucial to portray Miles trying to save his dad, but confronted with a version of the world that had gone haywire due to a significant event," Powers explained, comparing it to the altered reality in It's a Wonderful Life's Bedford Falls without George Bailey.
“He won't just want to escape this world. He'll also try to make amends with those he's wronged, adding a more emotional and unpredictable element to the third film. This complicates his mission in a way that we hope will surprise and excite people,” Dos Santos added. “The multiverse offers us these sorts of opportunities.”
"We are able to explore these questions, similar to the mental games you play with yourself: ‘What if I had chosen differently? How would my life be different?’ You can witness these scenarios unfold on the screen.
As for concrete details, you won't find any luck there. The directors and writers are keeping quiet about the third installment. “To quote Chris Miller: ‘Anything is possible’ is the best way we can answer. We’re just so relieved to have this story done in a way that we’re proud of,” Powers said.

Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I'm eagerly anticipating the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The first movie, Into the Spider-Verse, was a groundbreaking animated film that introduced us to Miles Morales and a whole new world of Spider-People. It was a critical and commercial success, and I can't wait to see what the sequel has in store.
I'm particularly excited about the expanded cast of characters. In addition to Miles Morales, we'll be seeing Gwen Stacy, Peter B. Parker, Miguel O'Hara, and a host of other Spider-People from different dimensions. It's going to be a lot of fun to see how these characters interact with each other and how they come together to defeat the villainous Spot.
