Spider-Man: Tom Holland's Surprising Regret that Involves Andrew Garfield

Tom Holland opens up about his Spider-Man journey, expressing remorse for not discussing his role with Andrew Garfield Delving into his regrets, Holland reflects on missed opportunities and the importance of connecting with his predecessor

Since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland has openly discussed his relationship and the support he receives from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who previously played Spider-Man. Recently, during the promotion of his new series, The Crowded Room, Holland mentioned that although he appreciates their friendship, he regrets not having a specific conversation with Garfield after getting the role of Spider-Man.

Holland was initially cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2015 when he made his debut as the superhero in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, this British actor has appeared as Spider-Man in five more movies, including the highly successful and critically acclaimed Spider-Man: No Way Home. This film, which had been subject to numerous rumors, brought together the three Spider-Men who battled different villains from alternate universes. Prior to this, fans had last seen Maguire in his iconic red suit in 2007's Spider-Man 3, which concluded his trilogy. Meanwhile, Garfield's journey as a superhero was abruptly halted when he was let go from the franchise due to the underwhelming performance of the 2014 film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which grossed approximately $700 million worldwide.

Years later, following their reunion and the immense success of Holland's Spider-Man trilogy and career, the actor expresses remorse over his failure to speak with Garfield before accepting the role. "I was so consumed with seizing the opportunity that I never took a moment to consider what it must have been like for him," Holland confessed to The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, Holland acknowledges that had he been recast due to box office performance after making a second film in the superhero franchise, he would have encountered significant difficulties in rebounding. Furthermore, he commends Garfield for his remarkable career and unwavering determination.

Despite their unspoken conversation, Holland reveals that the three actors maintain a strong and constant relationship. They regularly engage in Spider-Man-related discussions through a group chat. "We share this incredible bond as three individuals who have experienced something so unique that we truly are like brothers," Holland expressed. During their last conversation, Holland was participating in a charity event in London, where he requested Garfield and Maguire to sign a poster for an auction.

The interview coincides with the success of the fourth Spider-Man film at the box office. The debut of Miles Morales, the Black and Latino Spider-Man, on the big screen in 2018's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse garnered significant acclaim. The highly anticipated sequel to his story, titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, was recently released and surpassed all expectations by earning $236 million within its first week.
