TikTok users are divided over a Spider-Man Christmas display that recreates the death of Gwen Stacy. As Thanksgiving fades into the background, nerdy Christmas decorations are making their way into homes.
This year, there has been a wide variety of creative Christmas gifts, from Coke can nativities to video game ornaments. The market for geeky Christmas gifts is thriving, as enthusiasts enjoy decorating with their favorite franchises.
However, one TikTok user may have taken it to the extreme by using a new Marvel Legends figure to create a surprising Christmas tree display that caught everyone off guard.
TikTok (reluctantly) laughs at Death of Gwen Stacy Christmas decoration
TikTok user divinememesavior shared the video to his page, with the caption “Found my Christmas decor from #SpiderMan from #AndrewGarfield.”
In the video, divinememesavior sets up a Marvel Legends Amazing Spider-Man figure in a display where it appears to be falling from a tree and shooting a web line down. At the end of the web line, there is a Gwen Stacy figure splayed across a branch. This Christmas display is a reference to Gwen’s death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where she falls out of reach of Spider-Man’s web line. The scene is inspired by Gwen’s iconic death in Marvel Comics, where the Green Goblin throws her off the Brooklyn Bridge.
TikTok users reacted to the sight with a mix of horror and glee in the comments, ranging from those expressing that it was "too soon" to others making bad puns. "Oh snap," one user remarked, alluding to the sound effect from the comic and the prevalent theory of Gwen's death being caused by her neck snapping as Spidey suddenly slowed her body to a stop.
“I bet you broke your neck and back working on it.” one user said.
“You gotta put him lower so she’s just barely touching the floor.” another user commented.
Another user expressed their disappointment by exclaiming, "When I saw the hashtag Andrew Garfield, I was like noooooooo." The scene in the film is well-known for its suddenness, but fans, and Andrew Garfield himself, found some comfort in Spider-Man's redemption in "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

As a hard fan of Spider-Man, I find the Christmas decor that humorously incorporates the tragic death of Gwen Stacy to be both creative and controversial. On the one hand, I appreciate the creativity and humor in using a Marvel Legends figure to recreate the iconic scene from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The attention to detail in the display, with Gwen Stacy splayed across a branch and Spider-Man's web line shooting down, is impressive.
On the other hand, I can understand why some fans find the decor to be in poor taste. Gwen Stacy's death is a significant and emotional moment in Spider-Man's story, and making light of it in a Christmas display may be seen as disrespectful. Additionally, the scene is particularly poignant for fans of Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Spider-Man, who has expressed his own emotional connection to the character and the loss of Gwen Stacy.
