Spider-Man fans left heartbroken over Golden Globes disappointment

Spider-Man fans left heartbroken as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse goes unrecognized at the 2024 Golden Globes, sparking disappointment and outrage among dedicated followers

Numerous popular films were unexpectedly left empty-handed at the 2024 Golden Globes, leading many fans to feel that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was unjustly overlooked. During awards season, the outcome is always unpredictable, impacting both the winners and the unexpected disappointments.

The Golden Globes have started, and movies like Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, and Oppenheimer have all won big. However, the latest Spider-Man movie didn't win any awards, leaving fans feeling like it was unfairly overlooked.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse “robbed” at Golden Globes

Some Marvel and animation fans are beside themselves that the most recent Spider-Man movie, Across the Spider-Verse, was “robbed” at the 2024 Golden Globes.

The Boy and the Heron won the award for Best Animated Movie at the Studio Ghibli revival, although not all viewers were in agreement with the decision. "Congrats to THE BOY AND THE HERON on winning the Golden Globe for Best Animated Movie. Spider-Man got robbed!" one fan posted on X/Twitter in reaction to the outcome.

"WOW! It's a close race for Best Animated Feature! The Boy and the Heron surprised everyone by beating Spider-Man and taking home the Golden Globe!" one person commented. "It deserved to win Best Animated Movie and Best Score," another fan added.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came out in June 2023 and still holds a 95% certified fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was described in our four-star review as representative of our fortunate timing to witness the full potential of animated superhero films. With great power comes great responsibility, so we encourage you to be responsible and see Across the Spider-Verse as soon as possible. However, not all animation fans believe that Spider-Man deserved its Golden Globes win.

"Those who claim that 'Spider-Man was robbed' clearly haven't seen #TheBoyandthHeron, because that film is truly one of Hayao Miyazaki's finest. I'm thrilled that it emerged victorious," argued another fan.

"This is undoubtedly one of the greatest anime films I've ever watched. It's a well-earned win," a second fan added about the latest hit from Studio Ghibli.

Spider-Man came away empty-handed, but The Boy and the Heron is still thriving, becoming the first Studio Ghibli film to reach the top of the US box office. Don't forget to explore our other upcoming movie and TV hubs!

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z netizen, I am deeply disappointed by the Golden Globes' decision to overlook Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The film is a masterpiece of animation, storytelling, and superhero cinema, and it deserves to be recognized for its excellence. The fact that it was snubbed in favor of a lesser-known animated film is a travesty and a slap in the face to fans of Spider-Man and animation in general.

I understand that the Golden Globes are not the be-all and end-all of film awards, but they are still a prestigious honor, and the fact that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was not even nominated is a sign that the awards are out of touch with what audiences actually want to see. I hope that the Academy Awards will rectify this mistake and give Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse the recognition it deserves.
