Garrison Brown's cause of death has been confirmed by the coroner. According to an autopsy report obtained by People on May 15, Brown tragically died from a gunshot wound to the head. The coroner ruled his death as a suicide.
Sister Wives stars Kody Brown and Janelle Brown shared the heartbreaking news on March 5 that their son Garrison had passed away at the age of 25. Police were called to Garrison’s home in Flagstaff, Arizona, where they found him deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Garrison’s brother Gabriel was the one who discovered his body.
In an Instagram post, Kody, 55, and Janelle expressed their deep sadness over the loss of their son, Robert Garrison Brown. They described him as a bright presence in the lives of those who knew him and mentioned that his passing has left a huge void that is difficult to bear. They requested privacy during this time and asked for support in honoring Garrison's memory.
After his death, a police report revealed that Janelle, 54, informed authorities that Garrison had sent a message to a group chat that included members of the Brown family's staff. In the message, Garrison expressed, "I want to hate you for sharing the good times. But I can't. I miss these days."
Janelle found out about his response even though she wasn't in the chat. They had a short conversation before he stopped replying.
After Garrison's sudden death, his friend Kenia Gutierrez was shocked and reflected on his passing.
"I was completely caught off guard. He was such a friendly face, always greeting everyone with a smile. His presence was truly welcoming," she shared with Us on March 7. She mentioned that everything seemed fine leading up to Garrison's unexpected passing. "He always had a positive attitude. The news of his death was a real shock."
A few days after, Garrison's cousin Emma Brown mentioned that the family had already held a funeral for him.
Emma wrote a heartfelt message to Robert on Instagram, expressing her thoughts and love for him before saying goodbye at his funeral.
Maddie Brown shared that mental health played a role in Garrison's passing, shedding light on an important factor in his untimely death.
Maddie, 28, expressed on Instagram on March 18 that mental health is extremely important and should be talked about more. She believes that there is not enough awareness about mental health issues, as seen in Garrison's case. Maddie is determined to keep discussing mental health and self-care until it becomes a more understandable topic for everyone.
In addition, Maddie pointed out that "social media is not real" and advised her followers to be more genuine in their online presence.
"It’s like a highlight reel. Garrison used to feel like he wasn’t doing enough because he was comparing himself to things on social media. I don’t think that it’s real and I think we need to remember that," she added.
Garrison was one of Janelle and Kody's six children, along with Maddie and siblings Logan, 29, Hunter, 26, Gabriel, 21, and Savanah, 18.
