Sister Wives' Christine Brown Believes Money Is Janelle's Main Motive for Staying with Kody

Sister Wives’ Christine Brown speculates on Janelle's delayed departure from Kody Brown, attributing it to financial factors Discover Christine's insights on why Janelle stayed with Kody for so long

Christine Brown, one of the Sister Wives, shared her perspective on why she believes Janelle Brown didn't leave Kody Brown earlier, attributing it to financial reasons. In a recent episode of the TLC series, Christine, aged 51, elaborated on her own separation from Kody in 2021 while discussing that she had achieved financial independence before the split.

“Kody and I discussed the plans for the property and my house before I left. I suggested keeping all the money from selling my house and relinquishing my share of the property back to the family,” she reflected, referring to their land in Coyote Pass, Arizona. “So, in terms of finances, it was an easy decision for me to walk away.”

Janelle's situation, however, is more complex. "I think the main reason Janelle is staying with Kody is because she doesn't have anything under her name," Christine explained. "Kody's name is on every piece of property, including the Coyote Pass property."

Janelle, 54, revealed in her personal confession that she was financially trapped due to the outstanding payment on her family's land and the delay in starting construction, according to her original plan.

"I find myself in a situation where I don't have any assets solely in my name," Janelle confessed during her interview. "I share ownership of these properties with other family members."

In the episode, Kody contended that Janelle was not the sole person facing difficulties with Coyote Pass. He openly admitted that all of them shared the same problem of having their assets merged.

In December 2022, Janelle officially acknowledged that she and Kody had been experiencing a separation for quite a few months. Their ongoing tension has been prominently featured in the 18th season of Sister Wives, reaching a breaking point during a heated argument captured on camera.

Although the lack of income and financial instability did contribute to Janelle's decision to stay with Kody, she also emphasized her faith as a significant factor influencing her choice.

"I mean, life is just so short," Janelle expressed to Christine and her siblings during the episode on Sunday. She acknowledged the challenge of being raised in a culture that believes in lifelong marriages, making it difficult for her to come to terms with the situation.

She subsequently admitted that some of her six children with Kody have questioned whether she has truly moved on from their father because she hasn't started a new relationship. Janelle clarified that her reluctance to fully separate from Kody stems from her struggle to align her faith with her current life circumstances.

Janelle, who has six children with Kody - Logan (29), Maddie (27), Hunter (26), Garrison (25), Gabriel (21), and Savanah (18), stated that she is not in a rush and will see how things unfold.

In addition to Christine and Janelle, Kody is now separated from his first wife, Meri Brown, while still maintaining a legal marriage to his fourth wife, Robyn Brown.

Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
