After the strike, Hollywood is gearing up for production again with some of our favorite shows and movies already back in action. Cast members from Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Summer School and ABC’s The Rookie were excited to return to set. Zaria, who plays Faran Bryant on PLL, shared her enthusiasm on Instagram in November 2023, exclaiming, "The actors are back, baby!"
The TV and film industry was brought to a halt when the Writers Guild Association went on strike in May due to unsuccessful contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Following this, SAG-AFTRA also joined the writers in their labor dispute with AMPTP. As a result, the majority of Hollywood productions ceased, unless they followed the terms of the SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement, which permitted some projects to proceed with filming.
In September, the WGA and AMPTP came to a three-year agreement. The WGA negotiating committee expressed satisfaction with the deal, stating that it provides meaningful gains and protections for writers across all sectors of the membership. Members received a 94-page document outlining the new terms, which cover compensation increases, minimum staff levels in TV writer’s rooms, improved payment terms for screenwriters, and protections for the use of artificial intelligence.

The entertainment industry was brought to a halt when the Writers Guild Association declared a strike in May due to unsuccessful contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Two months later, SAG-AFTRA stood in solidarity with writers on the picket line after facing their own labor dispute with the AMPTP. In September, the WGA and AMPTP finally reached a three-year contract agreement.
The WGA negotiating committee expressed great pride in the exceptional deal, highlighting the significant gains and protections for writers across all sectors of the membership in an email to its members. The message included a 94-page document outlining the new terms, which cover compensation gains, minimum staff levels in TV writer’s rooms, improved payment terms for screenwriters, and protections for the use of artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA recently finalized their own tentative deal earlier this month, but the union members still need to vote in favor of the deal to officially bring the strike to an end.
