Article Summary
Sicario fans can rejoice as producers confirm that Sicario 3 is happening, and the script is nearly complete.
The return of Emily Blunt's character in Sicario 3 would raise the stakes and introduce compelling conflict, enhancing the story. The meticulously crafted script suggests a project that has been thoroughly deliberated, guaranteeing it meets the high expectations.
Sicario fans have eagerly anticipated a third entry in the thriller film series for the past five years. Finally, our hopes were lifted last month when news broke that a script was in the works. In an interview with Our website, producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill confirmed that Sicario 3 is not only going to happen, but it is also further along in development than we had imagined.
During the interview, Smith and Luckinbill revealed to Our website's Editor-in-Chief Steve Weintraub that the script for Sicario 3 is nearing its final draft. Although work on the script was briefly paused earlier this year due to the writers' strike, the Writers Guild of America has since negotiated a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, allowing the team to resume work on the final draft. Luckinbill also mentioned that the plan from the beginning was always to create a trilogy, with at least three movies in the Sicario series.
"The strike caused a slight delay, but we are now very close to finalizing the necessary details and commencing the coordination of dates. We take immense pride in what we have achieved so far. Throughout our collaboration with Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the previous two movies, we have always envisioned this project as a trilogy, if not more. Our ultimate goal is to reunite the exceptional cast, including Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin, as we have an extraordinary story waiting to be told."
Emily Blunt's Return on 'Sicario 3' Would Significantly Raise The Stakes

While Sicario 3 may bring the story to a satisfying conclusion, Emily Blunt's (Oppenheimer) reprisal in the franchise would add an extra layer of conflict. In Sicario, Blunt portrayed Kate Mercer, an idealistic FBI agent who is appalled by the questionable actions permitted by the U.S. government at the Mexican border. This places her in imminent danger as a potential whistleblower, causing the audience to feel immediate concern for her well-being throughout the entire film.
The script for Sicario 3 was carefully taken into consideration during its lengthy writing process, suggesting a thorough and thoughtful approach to the project. Smith emphasized the importance of getting it right and explained why they chose not to rush the creative process. She also gave a glimpse of the upcoming movie, describing it as "epic" and deserving of being the third installment in the series.
"We are currently reworking the script and making good progress. We have full confidence that we will successfully complete it soon. Given the significance of getting it right, we are dedicated to not rushing the process. However, we are highly confident that we will soon have a shooting draft that will allow us to reunite the entire team. The story is truly epic and merits its place as the third part of the series."
The producers are already in the process of scheduling dates, so we may receive more production updates once the AMPTP presents an agreeable deal to SAG-AFTRA, who are still on strike. Additionally, in case you missed it, we revealed that Christopher McQuarrie is currently involved with the development of Sicario 3.
You can rent or buy the first Sicario on Prime Video and Sicario: Day of the Soldado is available to stream on Hulu.

As a passionate fan of the Sicario franchise, I am thrilled to hear that Sicario 3 is finally moving forward. The first two films were both critical and commercial successes, and I have been eagerly anticipating the next installment.
The return of Emily Blunt's character, Kate Mercer, is a particularly exciting prospect. Blunt gave a standout performance in the first Sicario film, and I am eager to see her reprise the role. Her character is complex and conflicted, and she brings a lot of depth to the story.
The fact that the script for Sicario 3 is nearly complete is also encouraging. It suggests that the filmmakers have a clear vision for the film and are committed to making it the best it can be. I am confident that Sicario 3 will be a worthy addition to the franchise and that fans will be thrilled with the end result.
