Emily Blunt responded playfully but evasively when asked about the possibility of her character, Evelyn Abbott, appearing in the upcoming spinoff film A Quiet Place: Day One. Blunt's character is a prominent figure in the A Quiet Place franchise, which began with the release of the first film in 2018. Directed by Blunt's husband, John Krasinski, who also starred alongside her, the film depicts a family's struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by extraterrestrial creatures that hunt by sound. With two sequels already released, A Quiet Place: Day One will delve into the earliest days of the alien invasion. In an interview with Deadline, Blunt coyly addressed the question of her potential involvement, suggesting that viewers will have to watch the film to fully understand its premise and perspective. She also noted that she is unable to reveal all the details at this time.
This is Lupita’s movie. The reasons behind this statement will become apparent when you watch it. It will provide a fresh perspective on the events that unfolded. However, there are certain details that I cannot disclose at this time.
Should The Abbott Family Be In A Quiet Place: Day One?
With A Quiet Place: Day One scheduled to debut in early 2024, it is disappointing that there is no evidence of the franchise's original stars appearing in the spinoff. However, excluding Blunt and the other familiar faces might actually benefit the spinoff. Without the need to rely on recognizable characters, A Quiet Place: Day One can strive to establish its own unique identity. The plot already bears some similarities as it delves into the challenges faced by another individual in a post-apocalyptic world.
A Quiet Place: Day One will need to differentiate itself from the Abbott family's survival methods and the chaotic opening sequence depicted in both A Quiet Place films. However, it presents an opportunity to delve into a period of time that has not yet been explored in the franchise - the aftermath of the alien invasion on society as a whole.
Considering that the Abbotts' story will continue in A Quiet Place III set in 2025, it may be unnecessary to include them in the prequel film. Additionally, Djimon Hounsou, a star from A Quiet Place II, is already confirmed to appear in A Quiet Place: Day One, establishing a crossover that connects the narratives in the same universe. While many viewers would be excited to see Emily Blunt in the prequel, her perspective of maintaining a separation between this film and the originals may hold some merit.
