Kate Gosselin released a statement on Friday, July 21, in response to allegations made by her ex-husband Jon Gosselin and their son Collin Gosselin. They claimed that she had him institutionalized to prevent him from exposing her alleged abuse. Despite her reluctance, Kate, 48, felt compelled to address the situation and share her side of the story. She spoke to People magazine about her decision.

Over the years, Collin, aged 19, has reportedly been diagnosed with various psychiatric conditions. As a result of his alleged numerous attacks and outbursts, Kate made the decision to have Collin admitted to a treatment facility in 2016. Despite their previous challenges, Kate expressed her continued love for Collin wholeheartedly. However, she lamented that since Jon removed Collin from treatment, his unpredictable and violent behavior has persistently targeted Jon, Hannah, and other individuals in their vicinity, according to her allegations made on Friday.

Kate asserted that Collin's distorted perception of reality is among the numerous challenges he has perpetually faced. She added that parent-child relationships are inherently intricate, and when mental illness is intertwined, the complexity and anguish amplify, making it exceedingly difficult for outsiders to comprehend.

Kate emphasized that all actions taken within their household were based on the explicit recommendations of Collin's pediatric psychiatrist and his team of specialists. These measures were implemented with the aim of ensuring the safety and well-being of every individual in their family, their friends, and even their pets.

Regardless of Kate's utmost endeavors, she expressed her belief that Collin remains a highly troubled individual who still requires significant assistance. She further clarified that due to his past record of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards them, neither she nor his siblings have been actively involved in his life.

Kate affirmed her backing of her daughter Mady's decision to publicly voice her grievances against Collin in the preceding week. "Mady's recent social media post about the matter is entirely true, and I commend her courage for speaking up," Kate concluded. "I will refrain from further elaboration on this issue and abstain from discussing it any further for the time being."

This statement from Kate follows Collin's controversial claims that garnered media attention during the episode of Vice's Dark Side of the 2000s series aired on Wednesday, July 19.

"I was about to inform my teachers about my mother when I suddenly had a thought. Can I actually use the term 'abusive' or is it prohibited for on-air use?" Collin commenced his interview for the show.

Upon being asked whether he meant to say that his mother was abusive towards him, Collin confirmed. "Yes, that is indeed the case. In fact, that's the main reason why she sent me away," he alleged. "I had begun to reveal the truth about what was happening at home, and she caught wind of it. To prevent any disclosure, she had to place me somewhere where I would be unable to reveal the secrets."

Collin shared his experience of staying at the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute in 2016. He mentioned how his father, Jon, had taken him out of the facility after he wrote a letter seeking assistance.

Speaking to Vice producers, Collin expressed that being in an institution had a significant impact on his mental wellbeing. He described it as an extremely distressing and desolate place, where he had to rely solely on himself without any support system. Collin admitted feeling scared, confused, and lost during that time.

Jon, who co-parents Mady, Cara, Collin, Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel with Kate, stated in the article that he was unaware of Collin's whereabouts during that period. This was because Kate had sole custody of the children.

In response to her brother's allegations of abuse, Mady addressed the issue through her Instagram Story on Wednesday. She emphasized that she wasn't bound to support anyone who had physically threatened her and her immediate family, citing incidents that occurred as recently as last year. Mady also made it clear that she would not tolerate someone who exhibited hateful and violent behavior towards others based on their race, gender identity, or religious beliefs in her life.

Her extensive message stated, "Once there is physical violence and hate speech, I believe there is no possibility of repairing relationships with anyone in my life. I do not wish to further expound on the reasons behind Collin's actions, only that I have personally witnessed them. Over the past few days, numerous individuals have sent incredibly hurtful messages to my private accounts, completely unaware of the entire truth of our experiences. Going forward, I kindly request peace, privacy, and an end to any further hateful correspondence."
