Collin Gosselin recently spoke about his experiences in different institutions, revealing that he believes his mother, Kate Gosselin, sent him there to safeguard herself. Speaking on the Vice show Dark Side of the 2000s, Collin, 19, shared, "I was beginning to confide in my teachers about my mother when, quickly, I wondered if I could mention the word 'abusive' or if it was prohibited on air."
When asked if Collin's mother had been abusive towards him, he affirmed. He explained that this was the reason why she had sent him away, as he had started revealing the truth about what was going on at home. She became aware of this and had to place him somewhere where he couldn't expose the secrets. In 2016, Kate, who is 48 years old, sent Collin to the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute to address his specific needs. He was subsequently transferred to another facility in Pittsburgh, where he reached out to his father, Jon Gosselin, requesting assistance.

Collin informed Vice producers that being in an institution had a detrimental impact on his mental well-being. He described it as an extremely dark and isolating experience, without any support system or anyone to rely on. He expressed feelings of fear, confusion, and being completely lost.
In the meantime, Jon stated that he had no knowledge of his son's whereabouts during that time, as Kate possessed full legal custody of their eight children after their separation in 2009. (The ex-couple are parents to twins Mady and Cara, aged 22, as well as sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel.)
Jon, 46, reminisced about how he used to visit his children's school for lunch and enjoy seeing them all together. However, one day he noticed the absence of his son Collin. When he questioned his other children about it, they remained silent, which deeply concerned him. Seeking answers, Jon approached the school guidance counselor who revealed that Collin was no longer enrolled as a student. The counselor provided limited information, stating, "'He's not here anymore,' but I cannot disclose further details."

After contacting Jon, Collin was promptly removed from the facility and has been residing with their father since 2018. Hannah, Collin's sister, disclosed that none of the other Gosselin siblings engage in communication with him. "Collin is not in contact with them," Hannah asserted. "Although they became aware of what occurred, they have deliberately chosen to not maintain a relationship with him."
Collin blames his mother for creating a social divide between him and his siblings. He believes that she portrayed the story differently to them compared to his own perspective. Before her television fame, he believes she was a different person with good intentions and a kind heart. However, he believes that the influence of TV, fame, and money has caused her to change. Kate, on the other hand, has denied Collin's claims of abuse and chose not to participate in the Vice series.
