Following son Collin's claims that she had him institutionalized to conceal her alleged abuse, Kate Gosselin broke her silence. Hours later, her ex-husband Jon Gosselin responded, stating, "Kate posting cruel false accusations regarding Collin seems to be just another way for her to justify her inexcusable horrific past behavior toward him." The representative for Jon further added, "True love for a child wouldn't include a mother attacking their son to the public. It is important to remember that a judge awarded sole legal and physical custody of Collin to his father."

Collin and Hannah, both now 19, came to live with Jon in 2018 and he stated that Collin needed to pass a thorough background check including mental, physical, and medical evaluations before joining the Marines. Jon emphasized that the government's complete diagnoses accurately reflect the truth.

Prior to addressing Jon and Collin's accusations, Kate, 48, expressed feeling forced to respond. As the mother of Collin and six other sextuplets, as well as twins Mady and Cara, she shared that Collin had received various psychiatric diagnoses over the years. In 2016, following a recommendation from a psychiatrist, Kate admitted Collin to a treatment facility after he allegedly had multiple "attacks/outbursts."

“Collin's distorted perception of reality is just one of the myriad challenges he has perennially confronted,” expressed Kate to the outlet. "Parent-child dynamics are inherently intricate, and when mental illness comes into play, the situation becomes exceedingly intricate and distressing, not to mention challenging for outsiders to comprehend."

Kate acknowledged her enduring love for Collin, stating that he still holds a special place in her heart. However, she emphasized that he continues to struggle, requiring substantial assistance. She expressed, "He remains a deeply troubled individual, and his ongoing need for support is evident." Kate went on to explain that her other children and herself have not been actively involved in Collin's life due to his past of unpredictable actions and violent behavior directed towards them.

During the Wednesday, July 19th episode of Vice's Dark Side of the 2000s, Jon, Hannah, and Collin made their allegations against Kate public. Collin, in his interview, stated that his mother had been "abusive" towards him, resulting in his placement at the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute. As for Jon, he asserted that he had no knowledge of Collin's whereabouts at that time, as Kate had full custody of all the children.

Jon and Collin have now denied that the 19-year-old is violent; however, Mady accused him of threatening her and her immediate family physically as recently as last year. Mady took to her Instagram Story on Wednesday to express her firm stance against allowing individuals in her life who exhibit hateful and violent behavior towards others based on their racial identity, gender identity, or religious beliefs. She emphasizes that she will not engage in any further conversation regarding rebuilding relationships after experiencing physical violence and hate speech. Mady clarifies that she will not go into detail about Collin's actions, but she has personally witnessed them.

In a statement to People, Kate affirmed her support for Mady's choice to share her story with the public, describing it as a completely accurate depiction of events. The TLC matriarch expressed her profound admiration for Mady's bravery in speaking out. Kate concluded by stating that she wouldn't be holding any further discussions on this matter.
