Following the release of Patch 10.1.5, players of World of Warcraft noticed a significant alteration with the Glyph of Shadow, which affects the visual appearance of the Shadowform for Shadow Priests. Initially assumed to be a bug, the World of Warcraft development team confirmed that it was an intentional change, receiving positive feedback from Shadow Priests.
Unlike the Holy and Discipline specializations, which prioritize healing, Shadow Priests specialize in spellcasting using Void magic to inflict damage over time and sustain themselves and their party members in battle. With potent spells like Devouring Plague, Shadow Word: Death, and Void Tendrils to overpower adversaries, as well as defensive abilities such as Vampiric Touch and Disperse to ensure their survival, the Shadow Priest is widely regarded as one of the most enjoyable DPS specializations in World of Warcraft. This recent change has only enhanced the enjoyment of playing as a Shadow Priest, according to some players.
According to Wowhead, the Glyph of Shadow's buff, which reduces the visual impact of Shadowform, has been further decreased compared to previous adjustments. Shadowform is a crucial aspect of a Shadow Priest's abilities, as it enhances their damage output and allows for the use of certain spells. Without any glyphs, Shadowform surrounds the Priest with a dark, purple aura that often obscures their attire. However, with the Glyph of Shadow, the appearance of Shadowform becomes much fainter in comparison, enabling World of Warcraft players to showcase their transmogrified armor and weapons without disabling the buff. Although some players initially believed this change was a bug related to the Fractures in Time content update, Blizzard community manager Kaivax confirmed that it was an intentional alteration that was not documented in the patch notes.
The response to this deliberate change has been largely positive on social media. While some players are still adapting to the adjustment, the general consensus within the community favors the modification. Despite the purely aesthetic nature of the Glyph of Shadow's effect, its value on the auction house has soared. However, World of Warcraft players who have chosen Inscription as one of their professions can create this glyph through Classic Inscription, starting at skill level 200.
Shadow Priests and other hybrid specializations underwent changes to their utility and mana pools in Patch 10.1.5, alongside the cosmetic updates. It remains uncertain how many players of World of Warcraft will make use of these alterations. The game is currently accessible on PC.
