The official cause of death for Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, grandson of Robert De Niro, has been revealed one month after his demise. The chief medical examiner of New York City informed TMZ on August 8 that Leandro had a combination of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine, and cocaine in his system. Consequently, his death has been classified as an accidental overdose.
Leandro passed away in July at the age of 19. His mother, Drena De Niro, whom Robert adopted while married to her mother, Diahnne Abbott, wrote a heartfelt tribute to her late son.
"My beautiful angel, you have been loved more than words can express since the moment I felt you in my womb," Drena shared on Instagram. "I don't know how to continue living without you, but I will try my best to carry on and share the love and happiness that you brought into my life as your mother. You were deeply cherished and loved, and I wish that love alone could have saved you."
The filmmaker expressed her condolences in an emotional statement, mentioning artist Carlos Mare and referring to him as her baby. She apologized for the loss and wished for Leandro to rest in peace and eternal paradise. In response, Mare shared his thoughts, stating that words cannot adequately describe the joy Leandro brought and the pain of his loss experienced by their families and friends. He mentioned that Leandro is now a child of God and his spirit shines brightly, even in the darkness. Mare added that love cannot be spelled without Leandro's name.
Before the official cause of death was disclosed, Drena addressed a social media user who inquired about her son's demise. "Someone deliberately sold him pills laced with fentanyl, knowing the danger, yet still sold them to him. For all those still involved in selling and purchasing this harmful substance, my son is gone forever," she claimed in July. Last month, numerous sources reported that Sofia Haley Marks had been arrested on federal charges of distributing drugs, including those sold to Leandro.
Shortly after the news broke about Leandro's passing, Drena expressed her gratitude for the support she and her family had received following their heartbreaking loss.

Expressing immeasurable shock and profound sadness, she released a statement to We on July 3 bidding farewell to her beloved son, Leo. Grateful for the overwhelming love and support, she humbly requests privacy during this time of overwhelming grief. Similarly, Robert also responded to the tragic loss of his eldest grandson.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo," the Oscar winner expressed in a statement to Us. "We are grateful for the condolences we have received from everyone. During this time of mourning, we kindly request privacy."
In addition to Drena, the actor has a son named Raphael, 46, with Abbott, 78. He also has twins named Aaron and Julian, 27, with ex Toukie Smith, a son named Elliot, 25, and a daughter named Helen, 11, with estranged wife Grace Hightower, as well as a daughter named Gia, who is 2 months old, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen. Furthermore, he is the proud grandfather of Raphael's three children, son Nicholas and daughters Alexandria and Ella, from his previous marriage to Claudine De Matos.
