Britney Spears recalls the moment she learned about sister Jamie Lynn Spears’ teen pregnancy in her The Woman in Me memoir.
Britney, aged 41, discloses in her book that during 2007's holiday season, she discovered that her sibling, who was 16 at the time, was expecting a baby. A reliable source has confirmed this information to We.
According to Britney, she learned about Jamie Lynn's pregnancy through a tabloid article, not directly from Jamie Lynn herself, who is now 32. (Jamie Lynn gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Maddie, in June 2008 with her former fiancé Casey Aldridge. She also has a daughter named Ivey, aged 5, with her husband Jamie Watson, whom she married in 2014.)
Britney claims in her memoir that her family had kept something from her. According to her, this occurred when Jamie Lynn, her younger sister, almost attempted to separate herself legally from their parents.
During the alleged emancipation ordeal, Britney recalls that her younger sister accused their parents, Jamie Spears and Lynn Spears, of confiscating her cell phone. The singer alleges that Jamie Lynn ended up communicating with the outside world using hidden burner phones.
Jamie Lynn, on the other hand, disclosed in her memoir, Things I Should Have Said, published in 2022, that she did conceal her initial pregnancy from Britney — following the guidance of her advisors. During this period, Britney was navigating a complicated separation from her ex-husband Kevin Federline, a situation that convinced Jamie Lynn to exclude her from the situation.
In her book, Jamie Lynn Spears declared that her team considered anyone outside of their close circle to be a possible danger. They even went as far as concealing her pregnancy from her sister, arguing that it was too risky to inform Britney about the baby. During her most vulnerable moments, Jamie Lynn needed her sister's support, but unfortunately, Britney was unable to assist her.
The Sweet Magnolias actress admitted that the fact that Britney found out the truth from a magazine still haunts her. Jamie Lynn expressed her ongoing pain from being unable to personally inform her sister. Additionally, Jamie Lynn claimed in her book that her parents refused her desire to raise her child with her then-fiancé outside of their family home, following the birth of Maddie, who is now 15.
My family opposed my efforts to gain independence, forcing me to resort to the threat of filing for emancipation through the legal system. Contemplating my decision for days, I heeded my instincts and instructed my newly hired lawyer to proceed with preparing the petition.
Jamie Lynn delivered the documents to her parents the following week. However, considering the ongoing public turmoil involving Britney, their family, she eventually chose not to proceed with the legal separation.
At the same time, my sister was going through her own breakdown, and the media's speculation about her well-being and our family caused a frenzy of paparazzi. Jamie Lynn explained that everyone involved reluctantly agreed that it was necessary to take actions that would prevent any further negative attention from the media.
During this period, Britney was engaged in a public custody battle with Federline, who is 45 years old, over their two sons, Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden, 17. In her upcoming memoir, Britney opens up about the heartbreak she experienced in early January 2008 when her boys were constantly being shuttled between their parents.
"I sensed a lack of support from anyone around me, including my own family," she expresses in her book, alluding to the time when her visitation rights were reduced.
The Woman in Me will be available for purchase starting on Tuesday, October 24.
