During a concert in Boise, Idaho, on Wednesday, June 28, Kelsea Ballerini, a 29-year-old country star, was hit in the face by an object thrown by an audience member, possibly a bracelet. A video posted on Twitter captured the incident, showing Ballerini pausing her performance of "If You Go Down (I'm Going Down Too)" as her band members rushed to check on her. A few moments later, Ballerini left the stage.
Upon her return to the stage after a costume change, Ballerini promptly addressed the incident. According to a TikTok video of the concert, she began by saying, "Let's discuss what just occurred. My priority is ensuring everyone's safety. If you ever feel unsafe, please inform someone nearby. Security is present throughout the venue tonight. If anyone is being overly pushy or if you have any uneasy instincts, please speak up." Although Ballerini did not mention what had struck her, she urged the audience to show kindness. "Please refrain from throwing objects," she requested. "It is my intention to create a safe environment for everyone at my shows, including the presence of young children. Can you assist me in making that happen tonight?"
The incident occurred a few days after Bebe Rexha experienced a cell phone hitting her face during a performance in New York City on June 18. The following day, the 33-year-old pop star uploaded an image on Instagram showcasing her stitched-up wound and black eye, alongside the caption, "I'm good."
Nicolas Malvagna, the individual responsible for throwing the phone, was apprehended and officially charged with assault. During his arraignment on June 20th, he defended his actions by stating that he was merely following a TikTok trend involving tossing one's phone at a celebrity, in hopes of obtaining a selfie before having it returned.
According to Mr. Malvagna's lawyer, Todd Spodek, his client's only goal as a fan was to have Ms. Rexha take photos with his phone and then give it back to him as a memento. The lawyer stated that there was never any intention to harm Ms. Rexha. Following his arrest, Malvagna was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 31st.
Days after Rexha suffered a black eye during her show, Ava Max had a similar incident during her performance in Los Angeles. An audience member climbed on stage and appeared to hit her in the face. Ava Max, 29, took to Twitter on June 21 to share that the impact was so strong that it scratched the inside of her eye. She made it clear that the person responsible for the attack will no longer be allowed to attend her shows.
More recently, Pink had her own strange encounter with a fan, although it was less physically harmful. While performing at London's Hyde Park on Sunday, June 25, someone in the crowd threw a bag filled with gray ashes onto the stage.
"This is your mother?!" exclaimed the 43-year-old "Raise Your Glass" singer, her confusion apparent. "I am not sure how to react to this!" With that, she gently set the bag onto the floor and resumed her mesmerizing performance.
