Selena Gomez, 31, and Emily Blunt, 40, are aware of the internet's close scrutiny following the recent Golden Globes lip-reading controversies. Sharing a photo from the AFI Awards luncheon on Friday, January 12, Gomez posted on Instagram Story, "We shall not speak lol,".
The two actresses shared a somber moment in a photo, with both covering their mouths with one hand as they stared into the camera lens.
Gomez and Blunt caused a stir when they both appeared at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 4, to celebrate their acting nominations. Throughout the event, social media was abuzz with speculation about what the two actresses were discussing behind the scenes.
During the event, Gomez was seen conversing with friends Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller, the actor Miles Teller's wife. There were rumors from amateur lip-readers online that Gomez mentioned to her friends that Kylie Jenner declined her request for a photo with Timothée Chalamet, who brought Jenner as his date to the Globes after nearly a year of dating. However, we later verified that Gomez did not have any interaction with either Chalamet or Jenner at the ceremony. According to a source, there was no drama and she never even crossed paths with him.
Gomez later clarified on Instagram that she was discussing “two of my friends who hooked up” with Swift, 34. Chalamet also denied any tension with Gomez, whom he previously starred alongside in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York.
The drama led Gomez to take a break from social media. “I’m off social for a while,” she wrote on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, January 9, sharing a photo of her boyfriend Benny Blanco. “I’m focusing on what truly matters.”
Gomez reactivated her profile several hours later, promoting her Selena + Chef cooking series.

Blunt, on the other hand, accompanied her husband John Krasinski to the Golden Globes. As they posed for photos on the red carpet, Krasinski, 44, leaned in to whisper to his wife. Social media fans speculated that he mentioned the word “divorce” or said, “I can’t wait to get through this.” Others believed that the couple were discussing the weather, with the Office alum saying, “I can’t wait to get indoors.”
