Scarlett Johansson's Marvel Salary Covers Colin Jost's Ferry Costs, Jokes the Comedian

Comedian Colin Jost humorously mentions how he depends on wife Scarlett Johansson's Marvel earnings to offset his ferry expenses. Find out more about their playful banter and financial dynamics.

Colin Jost is very happy to be Mr. Scarlett Johansson and enjoys all the perks that come with it.

During the Saturday, May 11, episode of Saturday Night Live in its ‘Weekend Update” segment, Jost, 41, jokingly mentioned that this year is the first time since 2009 that a Marvel movie has not started off the summer movie season. He added, “It better be a one-time thing because a lot of people rely on Marvel movies to pay for the ferries they bought.”

In response, Jost’s cohost, Michael Che, simply shook his head.

Jost and Johansson got married in 2020 after meeting on the set of SNL. Jost is a comedian and head writer for the NBC variety show, while Johansson is a well-known actress who has portrayed Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010.

In 2021, Johansson's character in the MCU got her own prequel. Following this, Marvel, which is owned by Disney, made changes to its film schedule, pushing back several upcoming projects. It remains uncertain whether Johansson will return to play her character in any future Marvel films.

Jost appears on SNL every week. He and former cast member Pete Davidson, both 30 and from Staten Island, are working on renovating a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry boat they purchased in 2022. They plan to turn it into a fun entertainment spot.

Colin Jost made a joke on Instagram in June 2023 about buying a ferry while sober. He said, "Is it worse that I was actually stone-cold sober when we bought the ferry?" Jost expressed excitement to prove the non-believers wrong and confidently stated, "You’re going to be BEGGING to get on this ferry in two years. Mark my words."

Later that month, Davidson gave fans a sneak peek into the couple's building plans.

"We recently finalized all the blueprints and had them create a computerized visualization to show what it will look like. We've started sharing it with a few people," Davidson shared on the "Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers" podcast. "Everything seems to be progressing smoothly, but it's still about five years down the road."

He mentioned that the new establishment will include a restaurant, concert venue, movie theater, and a few hotel rooms. They humorously referred to it as the Titanic 2 when they made the purchase, but he didn't take all the credit for the name.

Davidson explained that they acquired the "biggest ferry" from the retired fleet. He expressed relief that the vessel wasn't scrapped and shared a joke about how this project will be a long-term challenge for him and Colin.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
