Scarlett Johansson is excited about the animation style of the upcoming Transformers movie, which is directed by Josh Cooley and explores the story of Optimus Prime and Megatron's relationship on their home world of Cybertron. Johansson, who plays Elita in the star-studded cast, praised the movie's animation by Industrial Light and Magic, describing it as "cool" and "awesome" in texture. In an interview with Collider, she also spoke highly of Cooley's heartfelt story, with whom she is also collaborating on Disney's Tower of Terror movie. While not giving away too much, Johansson's comments suggest that Transformers One will be a must-see for fans of the franchise.
I am thrilled to be playing Elita in the upcoming film. Working with Josh Cooley has been an absolute joy, as he is an incredible writer-director who I have had the pleasure of collaborating with in the past. The visuals of this movie are unlike anything I have ever seen before, truly captivating and unique. The texture of the film is simply awesome. Josh's writing style gives the movie a dramatic feel that is both funny and heartfelt, just like all of his previous works. This approach to the IP is refreshing and exciting, and I believe it stands out on its own.
What To Expect From Transformers One
The last Transformers movie to hit theaters was Transformers: The Movie back in 1986. Unfortunately, the movie didn't perform well at the box office and received negative reviews from critics. Despite being based on the popular Saturday morning cartoon, the movie left younger audiences upset due to its emotional storyline, which included the violent deaths of several beloved characters, including Optimus Prime. This even prompted a massive letter-writing campaign. However, over time, Transformers: The Movie gained a cult following and its reception improved.
From Johansson's statements, it appears that Transformers One will have a more touching plot, especially coming from the writer-director of Toy Story 4. It promises to be unlike any other Transformers animated movie. While no sneak peeks have been released yet, it's uncertain which animation style Transformers One will adopt. However, it's unlikely to revert to the traditional 2D hand-drawn animation. Instead, it may follow the trend of visually stunning animated franchise movies such as Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
