Say Goodbye to Your Favorite Pokemon Cards: Online Servers Permanently Shut Down

Pokemon Trading Card Game Online servers have been permanently shut down, but fans can still enjoy the physical card game and explore other virtual options

Trading card game fans have been left in dismay as the servers for Pokemon TCG Online were shut down, signaling the end of the digital version of the popular game. First launched in 2011, the game was widely regarded as the ideal way for players to enjoy the traditional tabletop card game in the online realm. With the ability to face off against computer-controlled opponents or compete with other players using their own decks, the game enjoyed over a decade of support and was available on both Android and iOS platforms.

The Pokemon TCG Online app has been discontinued by The Pokemon Company to make way for the release of its successor, Pokemon TCG Live, which will be available for PC and mobile devices starting June 8, 2023. The new app has undergone extensive beta testing across all devices globally and will enable players to continue battling with their custom decks. As per the schedule announced in May, the Pokemon TCG Online's servers were shut down, and the app was removed from all app stores and the website on June 5. Players can transfer their card collections to Pokemon TCG Live, but are advised to exercise caution while selecting the cards to be transferred, as only four copies of a single card will be allowed.

The upcoming version of the game promises to offer a number of exciting features, including an expanded Ranked Ladder and the option to customize with cosmetics and card backs. Players can acquire these items through microtransactions or by completing the Battle Pass. A notable addition to the game is the ability to battle against other players on mobile devices, which was previously unavailable in Pokemon TCG Online. Fans of the game should prepare their top Pokemon TCG cards for the launch of Pokemon TCG Live on June 8, available on both mobile and PC.
