Sam Hunt, the 38-year-old country crooner, openly admits that he still has room to grow, just like the recurrent refrain of a country song. It was after becoming a parent to his daughter, Lucy Louise, in May 2022, that he acknowledged his past mistakes.
"There were years when I didn't realize how much I needed to grow up," Hunt shared in an interview with ET Canada on Tuesday, July 18. "Having a child made me confront this need. It caused a shift in my nervous system. There was a part of me that needed to change, and becoming a parent allowed me to do that."
Hunt went on to explain that becoming a father for the first time "awakened me from a routine I had fallen into after years of repetition. I wouldn't say I was sleepwalking, but I had definitely reached a point in my life where I needed something more. I am grateful for the experience, as it has helped me grow and develop in many ways."
Prior to the birth of their daughter Lucy Louise, Hunt and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, faced difficulties in their relationship. In February 2022, Fowler initiated divorce proceedings, accusing Hunt of "inappropriate marital conduct" and "adultery." However, the couple eventually reconciled, resulting in Fowler canceling the divorce in April. As Hunt contemplates his past decisions and looks ahead, he acknowledges that there is still much progress to be made, but he feels prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead.
When it comes to setting a path for his children, Hunter and Fowler, who are currently anticipating their second child, the "Outskirts" musician expresses that his daughter (and the impending baby) serve as a reflection of himself in certain ways. The singer further elaborates that this sense of self-awareness compels him to maintain a responsible demeanor. He emphasizes the significance of having a deeper understanding of his own actions, words, and behavior, as witnessing oneself through the eyes of a child is a profound and impactful experience.
Hunt and Fowler, on the other hand, have mended their relationship troubles and are currently overjoyed as they anticipate the arrival of their second child.
"I feel like everything is falling into place at the moment," exclaimed Hunt.
