Ryan Gosling confessed that he got emotional while listening to Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" with his co-star Emily Blunt during the filming of his new movie, The Fall Guy. He also joked that he was surprised to see this vulnerable moment included in the movie.
"That was actually just me," Gosling, 43, shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Tuesday, April 23. "I didn’t know they were filming."
The Fall Guy is a movie adaptation of the 1980s TV show with the same name that starred Lee Majors. In this version, Gosling plays Colt Seavers, a veteran stuntman, while Blunt portrays Jody Moreno, a former camera operator turned director who also happens to be Colt's ex-girlfriend.
Blunt humorously described a touching moment in the film involving a Taylor Swift song, saying she couldn't shake Gosling's emotions during that scene and how perfectly the song fit the moment.
Blunt praised Gosling's performance in a separate interview. She mentioned that the scene was partly scripted, allowing them to improvise. She expressed how enjoyable it was to work with Gosling, who is a master at improvisation. The scene they played was the aftermath of a fire burn scene, where her character may have felt a mix of shame and enjoyment. The characters were seen awkwardly trying to reconnect with each other, creating a fun and memorable experience for Blunt.
Swift, who is 34 years old, first released the song "All Too Well" on her fourth album, Red, back in 2012. Due to a disagreement over the rights to her music, Swift decided to re-record the song, now known as "Taylor's Version," and included a "10 Minute Version" in the re-recorded album Red (Taylor's Version) in November 2021.
Recently, Gosling and Blunt gave their own rendition of "All Too Well" during an episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by the Barbie actress on April 13. This appearance was Gosling's third time hosting the show, and it was done to promote their upcoming movie, The Fall Guy.
"Don't worry, I won't joke about Ken," he teased at the beginning of the show, talking about his character from Barbie. "It's not funny. Ken and I had to go our separate ways."
Gosling mentioned that he became too attached to Ken, and saying goodbye to the character felt like the end of a relationship. "When you're dealing with a breakup, there's only one thing that can really help," he added. "Listening to the music of the amazing Taylor Swift."
After watching the SNL performance, Taylor Swift had nothing but praise. She took to her Instagram Story on Sunday, April 14, to share her excitement. Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner, expressed her admiration for the performance of "All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version)" in the episode. She even hinted at possibly singing this version during her own tour. Swift was particularly impressed with the monologue in the performance, describing it as "EVERYTHING."
