Ryan Gosling's daughters have a cute nickname for Emily Blunt - they call her Mary Poppins! Gosling shared on the Today show that his kids refer to Blunt as Mary Poppins and ask if he is working with her that day. It's a sweet nod to one of Blunt's most famous movie roles.
Blunt, 41, starred as the magical nanny in 2018's Mary Poppins Returns. She and her husband John Krasinski have two daughters, Hazel (9) and Violet (7). Gosling, on the other hand, shares two daughters, Esmerelda (9) and Amada (7), with his longtime partner Eva Mendes.
Blunt mentioned that their daughters have a deep adoration for Gosling. They particularly love him for his role as Ken in the popular summer blockbuster Barbie released in 2023.
My oldest daughter, Violet, showed interest in a movie for the first time, and it's all because of Ryan, not me, joked Blunt. However, when Gosling mentioned it's actually more about "Ken," she had to agree.
"It's Ken," she confessed. "They're really curious about what his hair looks like in real life. I got asked that question a lot." (Gosling famously dyed his hair platinum blonde for the role.)
Gosling and Blunt are starring together in the new movie The Fall Guy, set to be released in theaters on May 3. The film follows Colt Seavers (played by Gosling), a seasoned stuntman who re-enters the entertainment industry after the lead actor of a major studio production goes missing. Blunt plays Jody Moreno, Colt's former girlfriend and the director of the movie he is now a part of.
Although Gosling affectionately calls Blunt "Emily Stunty Blunt," he mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that the actress possesses a natural, playful quality that is reminiscent of her character from 2018.
He explained, "She just brings that blunt force, you know. She brings the magic, she just Mary Poppins it. And pulls whatever it is out of her bag. She ascends from the heavens, she pulls all of the tricks out of her acting bag, she makes the magic. Then she’s off to help other people on other movies and you’re like, ‘Was that real?'”
Meanwhile, Blunt has endless regard for Gosling’s talent.

She shared with ET that she could easily list all the things she admires and loves about Ryan. She believes he is a truly unique talent, the best in his field, incredibly funny, exceptionally intelligent, and kindhearted. In her words, "You are the kindest."
Blunt and Gosling are clearly close friends, as they playfully teased each other about their 2023 films, Oppenheimer and Barbie, competing at the box office last summer. This friendly banter took place while they were presenting at the Oscars in March. (Although both were nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Supporting categories, Emma Stone and Blunt’s Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy ended up winning.)
"I'm relieved that we can finally move past this 'Barbenheimer' rivalry," Gosling shared with Blunt on stage. In response, Blunt jokingly remarked, "With how this award season unfolded, it wasn't much of a rivalry after all. Let's just leave it in the past!"
Gosling acknowledged Christopher Nolan's success with the atomic bomb biopic, which won Best Picture that evening. "You guys are doing amazing, congratulations," he praised. However, he couldn't resist a playful jab, "I think I understand now why it's 'Barbenheimer' and not 'Oppenarbie.' You're following behind because you rode Barbie's success all summer long."
Gosling mentioned that Barbie made $1.4 billion at the global box office, making it the top-grossing film of 2023. Oppenheimer, on the other hand, brought in a total of $960 million worldwide.
Blunt responded with a sarcastic remark, saying, "Thanks for Kens-plaining that to me, all right. Mr. I need to paint my abs on to get nominated! You don’t see Robert Downey doing that."
The Fall Guy hits theaters on Friday, May 3.
