Russell Brand speaks highly of his ex-wife, Katy Perry, but reflects on their time together as a mix of positive and negative experiences. During his recent appearance on Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge, the 48-year-old actor described their time as somewhat chaotic and personally alienating.
Brand stated that his relationship with Perry, who was 38 years old at the time, coincided with the peak of his public visibility due to his notable roles in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.
According to Brand, there were certain aspects of the relationship that were truly remarkable. As he and host Bear Grylls hiked through Scotland's Hebrides islands, Brand expressed admiration for Perry, describing her as an extraordinary individual. He also emphasized the exhilarating experience of briefly existing in the intense spotlight of fame.

Brand and Perry became engaged after three months of dating in late 2009 and married in October 2010 in Rajasthan, India. However, their marriage ended in divorce just a year later, with Brand citing irreconcilable differences as the cause.
In a 2012 interview with Howard Stern, Brand vaguely mentioned that he and Perry disagreed on the topic of starting a family. He expressed his interest in marriage and having children but stated he didn't want to disclose further details to avoid causing any harm to Perry.
Brand went on to welcome two children, Mabel (6) and Peggy (5), with his wife Laura Gallacher, whom he married in August 2017. In June, he announced that they are currently expecting their third child.
During an interview on Steven Bartlett's "The Diary of a CEO" podcast, Brand expressed that fatherhood has taught him that there are more important things in this world than himself. He also mentioned that it has shown him the reality of love and has taught him valuable lessons about becoming a father.
Perry welcomed her daughter, Daisy Dove, who is now 2 years old, with Orlando Bloom in August 2020. The couple got engaged in February 2019. In 2013, Perry revealed that Brand informed her of his desire for a divorce through a text message. She described him as a clever person and admitted that she was still in love with him at the time of their marriage. However, she mentioned that she hadn't heard from him since he texted her about the divorce on December 31, 2011.
