Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are embattled in a lawsuit over their $15 million home.

According to court documents obtained on Wednesday, August 9, the couple, who bought their Santa Barbara home in July 2020, is preparing to commence a trial against the individual who sold them the property. The seller, Carl Wescott, an 83-year-old veteran and businessman, alleges in the paperwork that he was unable to comprehend the contract's nature and likely consequences due to various health issues, such as being on painkillers following back surgery just prior to the sale.

After being frail from advanced age and poor health due to Huntington's Disease, Westcott underwent a major six-hour surgery less than a week before the proposed contract to sell his home was presented to him on July 14, 2020. The documents assert that the multiple opiate medications, which were synthetic morphine, caused disorientation and intoxication, hindering Westcott's comprehension of the contract's terms and consequences. Furthermore, these medications significantly impaired his mental faculties to the extent that he lacked sound judgment and the ability to give his consent freely, voluntarily, or intelligently. Consequently, the contract Westcott signed to sell his home is deemed either void or voidable.

Upon realizing that he had been influenced by drugs at the time, Westcott sent an email to Berkshire Hathaway, acting as the dual agent for both the seller and buyer. In the email, he explicitly expressed his unwillingness to proceed with the sale of his home. Additionally, he provided an explanation of the situation and apologized for any confusion caused.

On the same day, Perry, aged 38, and Bloom, aged 46, presented Westcott with a letter expressing their fondness for the residence and their desire to acquire it as their new abode. In response, Westcott conveyed that due to being in the twilight years of his life, he is unable to part with his home. Subsequently, the couple, who became engaged in 2019 and became parents to daughter Daisy in August 2020, just a month after acquiring the property, proceeded with legal measures.

On July 24, 2020, Mr. Westcott received a letter from a lawyer representing not only Mr. Gudvi, but also Mr. Orlando Bloom and Ms. Katheryn Hudson (professionally known as Katy Perry). The letter informed Mr. Westcott that his clients, Mr. Bloom and Ms. Hudson, are committed to purchasing his home and he is obliged to finalize the sale. Fast forward three years, the non-jury trial is scheduled to commence on August 21.

Perry and Bloom's real estate situation is undeniably dramatic, but this is not the first lawsuit involving the "Roar" singer and her home.

Back in 2015, Perry acquired a Los Angeles convent from Archbishop Jose Gomez for a hefty price of $14.5 million. However, a group of nuns who had resided in the convent for many years argued that the archbishop had no authority to sell the property, as they had already sold it for over $15 million. In response, Gomez took legal action against the nuns, and the following year, a judge declared that their sale was invalid. As a result, Perry and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles were granted millions of dollars in compensation.
