Russell Brand and his wife Laura Gallacher are adding another member to their family as they are expecting their third child. The comedian, who is 48 years old, shared this news during an interview on Steven Bartlett's podcast "The Diary of a CEO." Bartlett, who is 30 years old, expressed his excitement and admiration for Brand, stating that the love he and his wife have found is truly special.
Brand proceeded to elaborate on how his life has transformed ever since he embraced fatherhood. He expressed, "It has instilled in me a profound realization that there are many aspects more significant than my own existence in this world. It has unveiled the truth about love and has bestowed upon me valuable insights that one gains from the experience of being a father. Every lesson is encompassed within this journey."
Gallacher, who is 36 years old, and Brand entered parenthood in November 2016 when their daughter Mabel, currently 6 years old, came into their lives. Following their marriage in 2017, their family expanded with the arrival of daughter Peggy, who is now 4 years old, in July 2018.
During the interview, Brand opened up about his childhood and struggles with substance abuse. He explained that his initial approach to feeling weak and disconnected was to achieve success, fame, and wealth. However, he has been sober since 2002.
When asked what could have made him feel less alone as a child, Brand expressed that all he wanted was to be acknowledged and affirmed. As a father now, he believes that before being able to parent others, one must learn to parent themselves. He emphasized the importance of knowing that one's true self is worthy and sufficient, instilling a sense of reassurance that everything will be alright.
Before marrying Gallacher, Brand had a relationship with Katy Perry, whom he met in 2009. They got married in October 2010 but Brand filed for divorce a little over a year later. Their split was finalized in July 2012.
Brand later suggested that he and Perry ended their relationship due to a disagreement about having children. "I was very enthusiastic about getting married and starting a family," he said in a 2012 interview with Howard Stern, choosing not to share further information about their discussions. "I don't want to do anything to harm her."
Perry went on to welcome daughter Daisy Dove, 2, with fiancé Orlando Bloom.
