Russell Brand breaks his silence on scandalous 'promiscuous past' accusations

Russell Brand firmly denies grave criminal accusations linked to his previous promiscuous behavior, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations

Russell Brand is publicly refuting the "grave criminal accusations" linked to his history.

In a video that he posted on social media on Friday, the actor, comedian, and writer categorically rebuffed the accusations contained in a "written correspondence and electronic message" received from a well-known "TV company from the mainstream media" and a "newspaper." While Brand did not explicitly mention the specific entities involved, he disclosed that these communications detailed a series of "severe and hostile assaults."

"In his video, Brand denies the serious allegations amidst the assortment of astonishing and elaborate attacks," Brand stated.

Over the weekend, The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4's "Dispatches" conducted a collaborative investigation. Four women came forward, accusing Brand of sexually assaulting them in separate incidents from 2006 to 2013. Among them, one woman mentioned that she was 16 years old when the alleged assault occurred in London, while Brand was 31.

The women mentioned in the report opted not to disclose their identities, as stated by The Times. CNN has been unable to verify their claims independently. Tavistock Wood, the literary agency listed as Brand's representative, informed CNN on Saturday that "Brand strongly and emphatically denied the accusation made in 2020, but we now realize we were grievously deceived by him. TW has severed all professional connections with Brand."

Several alleged assaults were reported to have occurred in Los Angeles. One victim sought treatment at a rape treatment center on the same day as the alleged assault, as documented in the report. While the center contacted the police, the victim chose not to file a formal report, citing doubts about the impact of her words against the perpetrator, as per the notes shared by the rape center.

Brand acknowledged that these allegations are related to his past when he was involved in mainstream media, newspapers, and movies. As he has extensively written in his books, he admitted to being highly promiscuous during that period. However, he emphasized that all his relationships during that time were consensual.

Brand has openly discussed his previous struggles with drug and sex addiction, as well as mental health issues. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to creating a digital platform focused on promoting wellness.

"Before, I was very open and honest about my journey - maybe even too much so. And I want to continue being transparent now. It's disheartening to witness this transparency being twisted into something criminal, which I adamantly deny. It leads me to wonder if there is an ulterior motive behind it all," Brand expressed in his video.

Brand claimed that he was being targeted by the publications with the intention of silencing him. "I have no issue with them discussing my past promiscuous and consensual behavior through my books and stand-up," stated Brand. "However, I vehemently deny these extremely grave criminal accusations."
