During a competitive match in Overwatch 2, one player falls victim to a classic online prank, resulting in them leaving early and experiencing a decrease in their ranking. The online nature of Overwatch 2 means that matches can always hold unexpected surprises. Since the game's release, players have been sharing unique moments and peculiar bugs that seemingly arise out of nowhere.
The community particularly enjoys witnessing mishaps during Overwatch 2 matches, with numerous players sharing short clips of unexpected occurrences. The recently added hero, Lifeweaver, often finds themselves in the midst of these incidents as their supportive abilities can unintentionally harm teammates. However, during a Competitive match, someone decides to revive an old Overwatch prank, much to the surprise of everyone in the lobby, as it successfully unfolds.
In a popular thread on the Overwatch 2 subReddit, a user named Toastless_Memes shared a screenshot of their chat log from a Competitive Match. Within the chat log, a message appeared to be official, with the word "System" written in all caps. The message falsely claimed that the user had been reported and recommended typing "/log" followed by pressing enter to review the report. Unfortunately, unknowingly typing "/log" triggers a terminal command that logs the player out of the game.
As a result, the player known as Goobster ended up leaving the match, causing it to close without impacting the skill ratings of the other players. However, Goobster will face harsh penalties in Overwatch 2 for leaving. The Reddit thread revealed that many players found amusement in Goobster's situation, with comments indicating that they too would have fallen for the trick. Nevertheless, it is important to note that this behavior could be reported as "Gameplay Sabotage," posing a potential danger to the individual instigating it. Players are advised to watch out for a diamond icon, signaling that a message is actually a new line instead of a standalone one.
Regrettably, Blizzard cannot make any updates to the console commands as they are functioning correctly as intended. Currently, Blizzard is heavily focused on gameplay aspects, with Overwatch 2 developers announcing some forthcoming adjustments to characters such as Lifeweaver, Mei, and Cassidy. As there may be a potential increase in crafty tactics like "/log" occurring in ranked matches, it is crucial for players to stay watchful.
Overwatch 2 can be played on various platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
